Google and 1 Billion Followers Summit Launch US$1 Million AI Filmmaking Challenge

TLDR: Google, in partnership with the 1 Billion Followers Summit, has announced the ‘1B AI Film Award,’ a global filmmaking competition offering a US$1 million prize for short films entirely generated using Google’s artificial intelligence tools. Submissions are open until November 20, with the winner to be revealed in Dubai on January 11, 2026.

Google, in collaboration with the 1 Billion Followers Summit, has unveiled a groundbreaking global filmmaking competition, the ‘1B AI Film Award,’ which boasts a grand prize of US$1 million. This initiative marks a significant step in promoting the creative application of artificial intelligence in content creation, with a strict requirement that all submitted short films must be predominantly AI-generated using Google’s proprietary AI tools.

The competition mandates that at least 70% of the film’s content must be generated using Google AI models and tools, such as Google Veo 3 and Flow. This ensures that participants leverage the cutting-edge capabilities of Google’s AI technology for core video generation. The organizers, Google and the 1 Billion Followers Summit, have stated that the 1B AI Film Award represents the largest and most valuable prize globally for content creation.

AI creators worldwide are invited to submit short films, ranging from 7 to 10 minutes in length, based on one of two designated themes. One highlighted theme, ‘Secret Life of,’ encourages submissions that share inspiring and untold stories through AI-generated videos. Films can be submitted in any language, provided they include English subtitles.

The submission window for entries closes on November 20. Following this, a jury comprising global experts in technology and filmmaking will select a top ten shortlist in December. These ten entries will then be subject to public voting, leading to the selection of the top five finalists. The five best films will premiere at the 1 Billion Followers Summit, a major content creator expo scheduled to take place in Dubai from January 9-11, 2026. The ultimate winner of the US$1 million prize will be announced on the final day of the summit, January 11, 2026.
