Cairo University is set to make a significant stride in the field of artificial intelligence by hosting its inaugural International Artificial Intelligence Conference, ‘CU AI Nexus 2025,’ on October 18th, 2025. This landmark event is designed to foster collaboration and dialogue among academia, industry leaders, and public sector stakeholders, exploring the transformative role of AI in critical sectors such as health, education, governance, and various industries. The conference directly aligns with Cairo University’s ambitious AI strategy, which was launched in October 2024, positioning it as the first Egyptian university to establish a comprehensive framework for supporting AI research, innovation, youth empowerment, and enhancing Egypt’s standing in the global AI landscape.
The ‘CU AI Nexus 2025’ conference will feature in-depth discussions on crucial topics including AI ethics, governance frameworks, and practical sectoral implementations. Complementing the conference is the ‘CU-AI Nexus 2025 Hackathon,’ a multi-stage competition designed to cultivate innovative AI solutions among students. The hackathon commenced with Milestone 1, the Faculty Competition, which ran from August 3rd to September 25th, 2025. During this phase, teams of 3-6 undergraduate students from Cairo University’s twenty faculties developed AI solutions addressing challenges aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 or the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Milestone 2 saw the winners from all faculties converging on September 30th, 2025, at the CU Main Hall for networking, knowledge exchange, and preparation for the final stage.
The pinnacle of the hackathon, Milestone 3, the Grand Finale, will take place on October 18th and 19th, 2025, at the CU-AI Nexus 2025 Startup Pavilion. Here, student teams will present their projects, receive mentorship from academic and industry experts, and compete for substantial prizes. Winning teams will be awarded a monetary prize of 50,000 EGP each, along with opportunities for seed funding, incubation support to transform their projects into startups, industry mentorship, and invaluable network access to investors and industry leaders. The event also included a series of webinars and workshops in August and September 2025, providing foundational understanding of AI concepts and applications.
