Malaysia Unveils 55 AI Use Cases to Accelerate Digital Transformation Across Key Sectors

TLDR: Malaysia’s Digital Ministry, through its National AI Office (NAIO), has identified 55 specific artificial intelligence (AI) use cases to drive adoption across various industries. These initiatives, announced by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, aim to enhance efficiency, foster innovation, and prepare the workforce for the AI era, having already attracted RM3.29 billion in investments and creating nearly 7,000 job opportunities in the first half of 2025.

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia is making significant strides in its digital transformation journey with the identification of 55 distinct artificial intelligence (AI) use cases aimed at accelerating AI adoption across diverse sectors. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced these strategic initiatives in the Dewan Rakyat, highlighting the collaborative efforts spearheaded by the National AI Office (NAIO), which was launched in December 2024.

The identified use cases span critical areas of the economy and public services. Collaborations are underway with the Transport Ministry to develop a traffic prediction system leveraging big data analytics, promising to optimize urban mobility. In the healthcare sector, the Health Ministry is partnering with NAIO to integrate AI into radiology and enhance the management of public hospital resources, aiming for improved patient care and operational efficiency.

Agriculture and food security are also key focus areas. The Digital Ministry is working with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry to create a smart agriculture platform for supply and demand forecasting, alongside systems for identifying pest infestations. These advancements are expected to bolster food production and sustainability. Furthermore, in a bid to future-proof its workforce, NAIO is collaborating with the Human Resources Ministry and TalentCorp to address skills gaps and ensure the national workforce is well-prepared for the evolving AI landscape.

For the public sector, initiatives like the ‘AI@Work’ programme are being implemented to integrate generative AI into daily tasks, thereby improving the efficiency of public services. Minister Gobind Singh Deo emphasized that these efforts are crucial for modernizing government operations.

Since its establishment in December 2024, the National AI Office has achieved notable milestones in the first half of 2025. Under the Malaysia Digital (MD) strategic initiative, the AI sector successfully attracted approved investments totaling RM3.29 billion from January to June 2025. This significant investment is projected to create 6,920 job opportunities, underscoring the economic potential of AI adoption in the country.

Looking ahead, NAIO is actively drafting the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030, which will focus on key pillars such as talent development, data infrastructure, and overall AI ecosystem sustainability. The draft AI Data Readiness Handbook is also being finalized to support the effective implementation of this action plan. In a move to strengthen Malaysia’s regional leadership in AI, NAIO, in collaboration with MyDigital, is set to coordinate the Asean AI Summit 2025, commencing tomorrow. This summit is anticipated to serve as a vital platform for fostering regional cooperation and leadership in AI development.
