TLDR: Blue Planet, a division of Ciena, has unveiled its Agentic AI Framework, a strategic evolution of its AI Studio. This new framework aims to transform telecommunications operations by enabling more autonomous, intent-driven networks, moving beyond traditional automation to intelligent agent coordination for enhanced efficiency and faster service delivery.
Blue Planet, a leading provider of intelligent automation solutions for the telecommunications industry and a division of Ciena, has announced a significant advancement in its AI offerings with the introduction of its Agentic AI Framework. This framework represents a strategic evolution of its existing AI Studio, signaling a profound shift towards more autonomous and intelligent network operations for Communications Service Providers (CSPs).
The Agentic AI Framework, powered by Blue Planet’s AI Studio, is designed to empower intelligent agents that can act with intent, context, and coordination across complex network environments. Joe Cumello, Blue Planet’s SVP and GM, highlighted that the framework is built on four core principles: deep OSS and telco domain knowledge, access to structured and federated OSS data, enabling AI agent coordination rather than siloed automation, and accelerating time to OSS value. This approach aims to help CSPs transition from manual processes to a truly autonomous network paradigm.
AI Studio functions as an intelligent workbench, allowing network engineers—not just data scientists—to design, test, and deploy AI pipelines and agents with confidence. Embedded within Blue Planet’s Cloud Native Platform (CNP), AI Studio facilitates the creation of agents that operate seamlessly across various applications, vendors, and domains. This capability is crucial for tackling operational challenges holistically and increasing automation across network planning, orchestration, and operations, thereby overcoming the limitations of fragmented tools.
The company emphasizes that this new framework moves beyond simply replicating patterns, as seen in earlier machine learning applications, to introducing a reasoning framework where agents act based on intent. This means that if a customer intends to achieve a certain outcome, the agents will take the necessary actions to make that outcome happen. This includes proactive prevention of outages and prioritizing specific use cases, such as optimizing streaming or video calls based on real-time application Quality of Experience (QoE) telemetry.
Blue Planet’s Agentic AI Framework is purpose-built for telecom, addressing the unique operational complexities and challenges faced by CSPs. Unlike general-purpose AI platforms, it leverages deep telco insights and a converged, clean data model, ensuring that AI agents operate from a single source of truth. This end-to-end network visibility and coordinated action are critical for achieving a truly holistic, next-generation AI-driven Operations Support System (OSS).

The announcement comes as the telecommunications industry grapples with the immense potential of AI for operational efficiency and autonomous networks. Blue Planet’s seven years of experience in AI across its portfolio positions it uniquely to help CSPs modernize their OSS infrastructure, reduce operational costs, and accelerate service rollout times from weeks or months down to hours. The framework was a key highlight at DTW Ignite 2025, where Blue Planet showcased its capabilities in demos such as AI-powered Service Assurance and Dynamic 5G Network Slicing Automation, including a joint demonstration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for automating the entire 5G slice lifecycle.
