Deepika Padukone Reflects on Accent Criticism While Becoming the Voice of Meta AI

TLDR: Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone, now the voice of Meta AI in six countries, shared her journey from being mocked for her accent early in her career to embracing this new technological role. Speaking at the CNBC Global Leadership Summit 2025, she highlighted the exciting possibilities of AI but firmly stated that it cannot replicate human emotion or “soul.”

Mumbai, November 9, 2025 – Renowned Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has made headlines by becoming the new voice of Meta AI, a role spanning six countries including India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Speaking at the CNBC Global Leadership Summit 2025 in Mumbai, Padukone offered candid reflections on her career trajectory and her perspective on artificial intelligence.

During her address, Padukone recalled the initial challenges she faced upon entering the film industry, specifically mentioning how her voice and accent were subject to mockery. “I am someone whose voice was sort of mocked when I came into the industry and now suddenly I am the voice of Meta AI. Strange! And my accent, but I continue to own it. I think that’s probably how and why it happened,” she stated, emphasizing her resilience and self-acceptance.

Her journey from facing criticism for her natural accent to lending her distinctive voice to cutting-edge AI technology underscores her evolving influence beyond traditional acting roles.

Padukone also delved into the broader implications of AI in the entertainment sector. While expressing enthusiasm for the technological advancements, she drew a clear line regarding AI’s limitations. “I am so excited about the possibilities, the only thing I believe it cannot replace is human emotion… you can’t infuse soul into AI,” she asserted. Her comments highlight the irreplaceable value of human sentiment and performance in storytelling, suggesting that while AI can perform many tasks, the essence of human artistry remains unique.
