Canva Unveils Creative Operating System Featuring First Proprietary AI Design Model

TLDR: Canva has launched its Creative Operating System, a significant update integrating its proprietary AI Design Model, which is the world’s first AI trained on design principles to generate fully editable designs. This new system enhances various design workflows, introduces an overhauled Visual Suite with Video 2.0, Canva Forms, Canva Grow for marketing, and makes the Affinity suite permanently free, aiming to simplify and accelerate graphic creation for its vast user base.

Canva, the global visual communication platform, has announced the launch of its Creative Operating System (COS), marking its most substantial product evolution to date. Unveiled on October 30, 2025, the COS integrates a suite of new products and features, with its proprietary Canva Design Model at the forefront, aiming to redefine how users create, collaborate, and scale their designs.

At the core of this innovation is the Canva Design Model, described as the “world’s first AI model trained to understand the full complexity of design.” Unlike conventional AI image generators that produce static images, Canva’s model is engineered to generate fully editable, context-aware, and layered designs. This breakthrough AI understands design principles such as structure, hierarchy, and branding, allowing it to orchestrate layouts and create content that users can immediately modify. The model powers all AI-driven tools across the Canva platform and is also integrated with external platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, extending its utility beyond Canva’s native environment.

The Creative Operating System introduces a reimagined Visual Suite, designed to support a broader range of content types and streamline the creative process. A key enhancement is Video 2.0, a faster and more intuitive video editor that blends professional-grade tools with Canva’s signature simplicity. It offers advanced timeline features and “Magic Video” automation, enabling creators to swiftly edit and publish professional-grade content, including watermark-free templates optimized for platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Further expanding its ecosystem, Canva has introduced Canva Forms, allowing users to create interactive, customizable data collection forms that integrate directly with Canva Sheets and Canva Code. This integration facilitates instant data visualization, analytics, and the ability to turn interactive code projects into live websites without leaving the Canva environment. Additionally, Canva Email Design enables users to create branded email campaigns with template-based layouts, AI-assisted visuals, and responsive previews, with the option to export clean HTML.

For enterprise and marketing teams, the COS introduces Canva Grow, an integrated marketing engine. This feature empowers teams to create, publish, and analyze ad campaigns directly from Canva, leveraging on-brand templates and receiving AI-driven performance insights. The enhanced Brand Kit further helps organizations maintain design consistency at scale, offering in-editor guidance on logos, tone, and colors.

In a significant move towards fostering creative freedom, Canva has also made the professional design suite Affinity (including Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher) permanently free. This suite, built by pro designers for pro designers, is now integrated with Canva AI tools through the new Canva AI Studio, making professional-grade tools accessible to a wider audience.

The launch also includes new AI-powered features such as AI-Powered Designs and AI-Powered Elements for generating complete designs or individual components like photos, icons, video clips, shapes, and 3D objects. Tools like Style Match and Magic Background help maintain consistent tone and layout. An in-platform assistant, Ask @Canva, provides real-time design support, offering suggestions, refining visuals, or checking typography choices.
