TLDR: Sridhar Vembu, co-founder of Zoho Corporation, has issued a strong warning against the uncritical copying and pasting of AI-generated text, particularly in customer interactions and code development. While acknowledging AI’s significant benefits for learning and efficiency, Vembu stresses the importance of human oversight and ethical disclosure to prevent productivity losses and maintain professional standards.
Sridhar Vembu, the co-founder and chief scientist of Zoho Corporation, has shared a cautionary perspective on the increasing integration of artificial intelligence into daily workflows, emphasizing the risks associated with over-reliance and misuse of AI-generated content. In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter) in August 2025, Vembu, who identifies as a ‘moderate to heavy’ AI user, outlined his personal engagement with AI tools, using them two to three times daily and having the top five AI applications installed on his phone.
Vembu highlighted several advantages of AI, noting its capacity to significantly accelerate learning and streamline processes. He stated that AI has reduced his conventional web searches by an impressive 80%, serving as a superior search engine. Furthermore, he values AI as an effective ‘debating partner,’ often using multiple AI systems to critique each other’s outputs, which he believes deepens his understanding of complex topics. He also acknowledged AI’s potential to enhance product experiences and improve the speed of customer support interactions.
However, Vembu’s endorsement comes with stringent caveats, particularly concerning the direct application of AI-generated text. He strongly advises against the practice of ‘copy-pasting AI text and sending it to a customer, hiding the fact that it came from AI,’ deeming it unwise and potentially damaging to customer trust. He also cautioned against the complete replacement of human agents with AI in customer support roles, advocating for AI to augment human capabilities rather than supersede them.
His warning extends to the realm of software development, where AI-generated code is becoming more prevalent. Vembu stressed that such code necessitates rigorous compliance, privacy, and security reviews. He asserted that any programmer submitting AI-generated code without conducting these essential checks is ‘failing at their job,’ as these critical review processes are ‘neither easy nor fun’ and are crucial to prevent potential security risks and maintain professional standards. He even suggested that unreviewed AI code could ‘slow us down’ rather than accelerate development.

Vembu’s overarching message is that AI should serve as a tool to augment human intelligence and facilitate intellectual growth, rather than encouraging unchecked content creation or code delivery. He concluded by stating that Zoho is actively conducting numerous experiments with AI, and his views may evolve as new ‘facts change on the ground,’ underscoring the dynamic nature of AI’s role in the professional landscape.
