TLDR: Vidu AI, a generative video platform by ShengShu Technology, has updated its Q1 model to support up to seven image inputs for video generation. This enhancement, powered by advanced semantic understanding, significantly improves visual consistency and enables the creation of more complex, detailed scenes, positioning Vidu as a strong competitor to OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo 3.
Vidu AI, the innovative generative artificial intelligence video platform developed by Chinese firm ShengShu Technology, has announced a significant update to its latest Q1 model. This update introduces an advanced ‘reference-to-video’ feature, which leverages sophisticated semantic understanding to allow users to generate video sequences from an unprecedented seven image inputs. This capability marks a substantial leap forward in AI-driven video production, particularly in maintaining visual consistency across complex scenes.
The core of this new feature lies in Vidu Q1’s enhanced semantic understanding engine. This technology enables the AI to interpret text prompts in conjunction with the provided reference images, even inferring and generating visual elements that may not be explicitly present in the initial inputs. This allows for richer video contexts, ensuring that multiple elements remain consistent from frame to frame within a clip.
Luo Yihang, Chief Executive of Vidu AI, emphasized the transformative potential of this update, stating, ‘This update breaks through the limits of what creators thought they could do with AI video. We’re getting closer to enabling users to create fully realized scenes, complete with a detailed cast of characters, objects, and backgrounds, by expanding multi-image referencing to support up to seven inputs.’ He provided an example where a user could upload images of a young woman in a green dress, an idyllic forest, and an owl, then prompt: ‘The woman plays the violin in the forest while the owl flies down and lands on a nearby branch at sunrise.’ Yihang noted that the Vidu Q1 semantic core engine would then generate a violin in the woman’s hands, preserving scene consistency and narrative quality throughout the clip.
This advancement aims to democratize complex video creation, removing steep technical hurdles for creators. With just a text prompt and multiple images, users can now produce highly consistent video scenes. Vidu AI is actively competing in the rapidly evolving generative video space, directly challenging established players like OpenAI’s Sora and Google LLC’s Veo 3, which was released in late May.
Beyond its multi-image input, Vidu’s generative video capabilities include processing natural English prompts and a unique filmmaking tool called Flow. Flow empowers users to manage narrative design, facilitating the development of entire short AI-generated films complete with visuals, special effects, and integrated audio, including speech.
Further demonstrating its commitment to pushing the boundaries of digital entertainment, ShengShu Technology announced a partnership with Los Angeles-based animation studio Aura Productions in late March. This collaboration will see the release of a 50-episode short-form sci-fi anime series, entirely generated by AI, slated for release across major social media platforms this year. D.T. Carpenter, showrunner at Aura, commented on the project’s significance, stating, ‘AI is no longer just a tool; it’s a creative enhancement that allows us to scale production while maintaining artistic integrity.’

The economic efficiency of Vidu Q1 is also noteworthy; generating a 5-second 1080p video clip using the Reference-to-Video feature can cost as little as $0.14, making high-quality video production significantly more accessible and cost-effective.
