Universal Music Group and Udio Announce Strategic AI Music Partnership Following Copyright Resolution

The announcement, made on October 30, 2025, marks a significant step towards integrating artificial intelligence responsibly within the music industry.

Beyond the compensatory legal settlement, the new agreements include comprehensive license deals for recorded music and publishing. These licenses are designed to create new revenue opportunities for UMG’s extensive roster of artists and songwriters, ensuring they benefit from the evolving landscape of AI-driven music creation.

The core of this collaboration is the development of an innovative new commercial music creation, consumption, and streaming experience. This platform, slated for a 2026 launch, will leverage cutting-edge generative AI technology. Crucially, this AI will be trained exclusively on authorized and licensed music, addressing a key concern that has fueled recent copyright disputes in the industry.

The new subscription service will aim to transform user engagement by providing a licensed and protected environment where users can customize, stream, and share music responsibly on the Udio platform.
