Under the terms of the MoU, OpenAI will deepen its commitment to the UK by exploring new investments in the nation’s AI infrastructure. This includes the potential development of data centers and the expansion of its London-based workforce, which was established two years prior as the company’s first international location. The partnership also aims to support the UK’s AI Growth Zones, an initiative backed by £2 billion from the Spending Review, designed to attract substantial investment and foster AI innovation across the country, with Scotland and Wales already confirmed to host such zones.
A core component of this collaboration involves enhanced AI security research. OpenAI will contribute to the work of the UK’s AI Safety Institute, providing insights into frontier model capabilities and helping to shape global benchmarks for AI governance.
