Truth Social Launches AI-Powered Search Engine, ‘Truth Search AI,’ Partnering with Perplexity AI

TLDR: Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, has introduced ‘Truth Search AI,’ an artificial intelligence-powered search engine developed in collaboration with Perplexity AI. This new tool aims to deliver direct, contextually accurate answers with transparent citations, positioning Truth Social as a competitor to established tech giants like Google and Meta. The initiative has sparked discussions regarding Truth Social’s control over the AI’s information sources and potential ideological bias, though Perplexity AI maintains its technology can draw from a wide range of sources.

Truth Social, the social media platform backed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, has officially rolled out its new artificial intelligence-powered search engine, ‘Truth Search AI.’ The innovative feature, launched in partnership with San Francisco-based AI startup Perplexity AI, is designed to provide users with direct, contextually accurate answers to queries, complete with transparent citations, rather than just a list of links.

This strategic move by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), Truth Social’s parent company, signals its ambition to challenge not only rival social networks but also major technology firms such as Google, Meta, and X (formerly Twitter). Devin Nunes, CEO of Trump Media and Chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, stated, ‘We’re proud to partner with Perplexity to launch our public Beta testing of Truth Social AI, which will make Truth Social an even more vital element in the Patriot Economy.’

Currently available on Truth Social’s web platform, ‘Truth Search AI’ is slated for public beta testing on its iOS and Android applications in the near future. The system leverages Perplexity’s Sonar API, a tool known for its ability to search for verified information across the web, including sites that typically block web crawlers.

The launch, however, has not been without scrutiny. Concerns have been raised regarding Truth Social’s asserted control over the AI’s information sources. A report from The National, a UAE state-owned news outlet, alleged that responses generated by ‘Truth Search AI’ frequently cited conservative-leaning media outlets like Epoch Times and Fox News. In response, Perplexity spokesperson Jesse Dwyer clarified that while Perplexity AI provides the underlying technology, Truth Social retains full control over the tool’s configuration and the sources it accesses. ‘We have no visibility or control over that,’ Dwyer stated, likening it to a company using the API for its internal data.

Perplexity has rejected suggestions of inherent bias in its core technology, asserting that its AI is designed to rely on a wide range of sources. Technology news site 404 Media reported that tests of the system yielded critical assessments, including references to economic slowdowns, when queried about the U.S. economy and Trump-era tariffs, suggesting a broader scope of information than some critics initially claimed.

The integration of ‘Truth Search AI’ aligns with a broader trend of AI adoption across social platforms, exemplified by Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot on X and Meta’s AI assistant on Instagram and WhatsApp. It also coincides with an executive order issued by Donald Trump in late July 2025, which targeted ‘AI bias’ and called for ideologically neutral artificial intelligence tools. Truth Social’s management has indicated plans to refine and expand its search functions based on user feedback, promising a wide range of additional enhancements to the platform.
