The round was spearheaded by global software investor Insight Partners, with significant participation from Redpoint Ventures, Innovation Endeavors, Stepstone, Liberty Mutual Strategic Ventures, and Prudence. This latest investment elevates Trunk Tools’ total funding to $70 million, marking a pivotal moment in its efforts to combat the construction industry’s deeply entrenched productivity inefficiencies, which are estimated to exceed $1 trillion annually.
Founded by CEO Dr. Sarah Buchner, Trunk Tools was born from her extensive firsthand experience in the construction sector. Starting her career as a carpenter at the age of 12 in Austria, Buchner progressed through roles as a superintendent, project manager, and group leader. Her frustration with daily inefficiencies on job sites motivated her to pursue a PhD in civil engineering and data science, ultimately leading to the development of Trunk Tools – a smarter, more innovative approach to construction project management.
Trunk Tools leverages advanced AI to organize and extract insights from the vast amounts of documentation generated throughout a project’s lifecycle, including drawings, specifications, RFIs, schedules, and submittals. The platform empowers construction teams to ask natural-language questions and receive immediate, accurate, and actionable answers derived from relevant project information. A key innovation is the deployment of fully autonomous AI agents that can manage entire workflows, tasks that previously demanded human intervention. These agents also connect data directly to project schedules, proactively identifying potential issues before they escalate into costly delays or rework.
