Teneo Protocol, a pioneer in decentralized AI, has announced the official launch of the first phase of its AI Agent Testnet, marking a pivotal moment in its mission to establish a permissionless and decentralized network of Autonomous AI Agents. This launch, which commenced around July 14-15, 2025, brings the first community-run AI agents online, empowering them to process public data streams and generate valuable insights while rewarding their users.
The Teneo AI Agent Testnet represents a significant leap towards a decentralized, user-powered AI ecosystem. Unlike traditional centralized AI models, Teneo’s agents operate within a browser extension, known as the Teneo Community Node. These agents are designed to search, structure, and retrieve public digital content from the open web without central control, ensuring data privacy and user autonomy.
A core innovation of this testnet is the introduction of two primary operating states for the AI agents: Observer Mode and Autonomous Mode. In Observer Mode, the agent works alongside the user, passively receiving and structuring publicly available signals as the user browses. Users are rewarded for simply maintaining connectivity, with points accumulating based on their contributions every 15 minutes of uptime. Autonomous Mode, on the other hand, allows the agent to operate independently, navigating and processing data without direct user input, thereby enhancing the network’s power and reach.
This testnet launch signifies the commencement of Phase 3 of the Teneo roadmap, shifting towards real-time, on-chain data processing. The network is secured by peaq, its layer-1 blockchain backbone, ensuring a robust and transparent infrastructure. The initiative addresses the current limitations in accessing real-time digital insights, where most data is generated by individuals but remains largely controlled by centralized entities, hindering innovation and excluding many researchers and businesses.
Teneo’s approach aims to democratize access to AI and data. By turning a user’s browser into a node that hosts an AI agent, the protocol enables a distributed, adaptive, and self-improving AI network. This model contrasts sharply with centralized APIs and surveillance models, offering an alternative powered by real users, on-chain, and always online. The implications are vast, ranging from enhanced search engines and real-time trend analysis to applications in finance and public opinion analysis.
Initial access to the testnet will be limited, with early entry granted via a ‘Golden Ticket,’ a custom NFT. Each early tester will receive three such tickets to distribute after processing 10,000 data signals, fostering a community-driven expansion from the outset. The testnet will also feature ‘Agent Insights,’ a new tab on the Teneo Dashboard, allowing users to monitor their agent activities and download their contributions.
