TD Bank’s Technology and AI Teams Spearhead Advanced AI Solutions

TLDR: TD Bank Group is significantly advancing its artificial intelligence capabilities through the collaborative efforts of its technology groups, Layer6, and Enterprise Innovation teams. Recent initiatives include the launch of the TD Securities AI Virtual Assistant, a generative AI chatbot designed to boost productivity for financial professionals, and the unveiling of TD AI Prism, a proprietary AI foundation model aimed at revolutionizing predictive banking and personalized customer experiences. These developments are built upon years of AI research and a strategic migration to a secure cloud platform, underscoring TD’s commitment to operationalizing cutting-edge AI.

TD Bank Group is making substantial strides in artificial intelligence, driven by the concerted efforts of its dedicated platform and technology teams, including its Layer6 AI research center and Enterprise Innovation groups. These collaborations are pivotal in operationalizing advanced AI solutions across the bank’s operations.

One key recent development is the launch of the TD Securities Artificial Intelligence (AI) Virtual Assistant, a proprietary generative AI-powered chatbot. Unveiled on July 8, 2025, this internal tool is designed to significantly augment the productivity and effectiveness of TD Securities’ Front Office Institutional Sales, Trading, and Research professionals. By streamlining daily tasks, the virtual assistant aims to enhance the value these colleagues can bring to their client interactions. Dan Bosman, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, TD Securities & Payments, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The TDS AI Virtual Assistant represents a significant development in our evolution of how we are helping revolutionize experiences for our colleagues and clients by operationalizing new technologies such as GenAI at the Bank.” The assistant functions as a Knowledge Management System (KMS), utilizing Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) to efficiently search, interpret, analyze, and summarize vast amounts of internal research documents.

Further solidifying its AI leadership, TD also introduced TD AI Prism on June 11, 2025. This proprietary artificial intelligence foundation model, built entirely in-house, is set to reshape how the bank predicts customer needs and delivers personalized experiences at scale. TD AI Prism integrates large-scale AI capabilities with secure, cloud-based banking data, enabling a unified approach to anticipate a broad range of customer behaviors, drive personalized communications, and accelerate product delivery across the organization. Christine Morris, Senior Executive Vice President, Transformation, Enablement and Customer Experience, highlighted its impact: “TD AI Prism will help empower us to not only stay ahead of what our customers need but also better protect the bank by turning data into actionable insights.” Unlike traditional models, TD AI Prism operates as a single predictive engine, capable of processing up to 100 times more data variables to understand customer relationships and preferences. Vlad Shpilsky, Senior Executive Vice President, TD Bank Group, noted that “TD AI Prism represents a significant leap forward for TD and will help transform the way we do predictive AI,” attributing its success in part to a large-scale migration of data records to a secure cloud platform in 2023, which provided the necessary foundation for scalable, privacy-respecting AI solutions.
