Launched in October 2025, Ask Agent is designed to autonomously collect vast amounts of telemetry data, contextualize it, derive actionable insights, and execute real-time decisions to safeguard endpoints. This innovative approach aims to provide a more proactive and intelligent defense mechanism against evolving cyber threats.
Orion Hindawi, Tanium’s co-founder and Executive Chairman, emphasized the critical need for this technology, stating, “IT needs agentic AI – agents that understand each specific IT environment, provide thoughtful change management and that automate comprehensive and intelligent QA with automatic rollback if failures occur.” This highlights the demand for AI systems that are not only intelligent but also capable of autonomous operation and self-correction within complex IT landscapes.
The adoption of agentic AI by Tanium reflects a broader trend in the cybersecurity sector. Lucia Stanham, product marketing director for CrowdStrike, distinguished agentic AI from its predecessors, traditional AI and generative AI. While traditional AI relies on predefined rules and generative AI creates content based on training data, agentic AI represents a significant leap forward by operating with a level of autonomy. Stanham noted, “It can assess situations, adjust strategies, and pursue objectives in dynamic environments, all while refining its own approach over time. Agentic AI is once again significantly changing the way that humans interact with AI.”
Tanium’s commitment to AI integration is not new. In March 2025, the company released a report demonstrating that automation substantially improves security posture and minimizes human errors. A survey conducted among Australian IT teams revealed that 78% believed automation tools could enhance security by accelerating patch cycles, reducing vulnerability exposure, and streamlining incident response.
The implications of agentic AI extend to Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) as well. The technology, while powerful, necessitates human oversight and potentially a secondary AI tool to prevent compromise, especially when scaling across multiple client environments. This ensures that the benefits of agentic AI are realized without introducing new vulnerabilities.
