TLDR: Tampere University’s GPT-Lab has partnered with the City of Pori Unemployment Services on the Generative Artificial Intelligence in Business Support (GENT) project. This initiative aims to explore and implement AI-driven automation to enhance the efficiency, accessibility, and reliability of public services, specifically in unemployment support.
Tampere University’s renowned GPT-Lab, a leading research hub specializing in generative AI applications, has officially launched a collaborative project with the City of Pori Unemployment Services. The initiative, named the Generative Artificial Intelligence in Business Support (GENT) project, seeks to revolutionize public sector services through the strategic implementation of AI-driven automation. The project’s kickoff meeting was held on September 3, bringing together researchers and city representatives to align on objectives and establish a clear roadmap for the upcoming work.
The primary focus of the GENT project is to test how AI-driven automation can significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of public services. Specifically, the collaboration will concentrate on automating routine inquiries and case handling within unemployment services. This is expected to substantially reduce the workload of human staff, enabling faster responses to citizens’ needs and freeing up valuable time for tasks that necessitate human expertise and nuanced decision-making.
Funded by the Satakuntaliitto Regional Council of Satakunta and led by Tampere University, the GENT project is slated to run until September 2026. Beyond its immediate goals for unemployment services, the project harbors a broader ambition: to disseminate generative AI expertise to various companies and organizations throughout the Satakunta region. Researchers from the GPT-Lab will work directly with businesses, co-creating AI-assisted experiments designed to boost productivity, enhance investment efficiency, and strengthen overall competitiveness. The solutions and materials developed through these experiments will be made accessible to all companies in the region, allowing for adaptation to individual needs.
