Sovato Raises $41 Million in Series B Funding to Scale Remote Robotic Surgery Platform

TLDR: Sovato, a pioneer in remote robotic surgery, has successfully closed its Series B funding round, bringing its total capital raised to $41 million. The investment, led by Beringea, will accelerate the development and deployment of its system-agnostic platform, aiming to expand access to surgical care globally and address surgeon shortages.

Sovato, a leading innovator in the field of remote robotic surgery, announced today the successful closure of its Series B funding round, securing a significant investment that brings the company’s total funding to $41 million. This substantial capital injection is earmarked to further advance and scale its groundbreaking remote robotic surgery and procedure platform, often referred to as telesurgery.

The Series B round was spearheaded by growth-stage venture capital firm Beringea. Notable participants in this funding initiative include significant follow-on investments from existing backers such as founding investor Polaris Partners, along with new and continued support from Intuitive, GS Ventures, Laerdal Million Lives Fund, Puma Venture Capital, Teladoc Health, and other private investors. This diverse group of investors underscores the confidence in Sovato’s vision and technological capabilities.

Sovato’s core mission is to democratize access to high-quality surgical care by enabling physicians to perform procedures remotely, regardless of geographical barriers. The company’s unique system-agnostic platform is designed to integrate with any surgical, interventional, or diagnostic robotic system, offering unparalleled flexibility for healthcare providers. This adaptability is crucial in a rapidly evolving market, projected by Grand View Research to see the global robotic surgery market grow by 12.4% annually through 2030.

Cynthia Perazzo, co-founder and CEO of Sovato, emphasized the critical need for such innovation. “Over half the world’s population lacks access to timely, safe surgical care, and in the U.S., millions are still forced to travel for routine procedures—a challenge that will only grow as surgeon shortages intensify,” Perazzo stated. She added, “Remote robotic surgery and procedure programs provide healthcare organizations with a practical way to extend the reach and impact of skilled surgeons, care teams, and operating rooms—enabling a more sustainable and accessible model of care.”

The company has already demonstrated the safety and feasibility of its platform through successful preclinical cases. These trials involved remote robotic-assisted surgery procedures conducted over vast distances, ranging from hundreds to thousands of miles, both within the U.S. and internationally. These successes highlight the platform’s potential to facilitate a ‘hub-and-spoke’ model, extending expert surgical care from centralized hubs to remote locations.

The newly secured funding will be strategically deployed to accelerate product development, enhance regulatory readiness, and forge stronger partnerships with surgical robotics manufacturers, healthcare providers, and other key ecosystem collaborators. These efforts are vital for broadening access to surgical care and alleviating the growing constraints on the healthcare workforce. Sovato’s co-founder, Dr. Yulun Wang, a recognized pioneer whose innovations have significantly shaped the surgical robotics industry, continues to provide leadership and a bold vision for redefining surgical access and healthcare economics.
