TLDR: Snyk, a cybersecurity company, has integrated Cortex AI with Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud to develop an internal AI chatbot. This chatbot provides natural language access to vast amounts of security data, enabling go-to-market teams to quickly retrieve complex information, saving approximately 1,250 business hours and answering 2,500 questions monthly.
Snyk, a leading application security company, has significantly advanced its data accessibility by deploying an AI chatbot powered by Cortex AI, leveraging its existing Snowflake AI Data Cloud infrastructure. This strategic move aims to provide natural language access to the company’s extensive repository of cybersecurity insights, streamlining operations for its go-to-market teams.
Since early 2025, Snyk has utilized Snowflake as a centralized data store, consolidating information from numerous disparate sources. This foundational shift replaced a legacy platform and an initial migration in 2021, providing a robust base for advanced analytics. The integration of Cortex AI has now enabled Snyk to build an AI chatbot within Slack, their primary internal communication platform, allowing employees to query complex data using natural language.
Randall Degges, Head of Developer and Security Relations at Snyk, highlighted the technical nature of Snyk’s products and the complexity of customer inquiries. He stated, ‘We have extensive internal documentation, so our idea was to feed that into a chatbot that would allow teams to get quicker answers to their queries, benefiting us and our customers.’ The chatbot’s primary function is to surface crucial information buried within the company’s vast data resources, which include intelligence on code bases and vulnerabilities compiled by Snyk’s security analysts.
Initially, Snyk considered developing this functionality in-house. However, opting for Snowflake and Cortex AI proved to be a more efficient, cost-effective, and rapid solution. According to Armstrong, ‘Snowflake’s vector store structure makes it very easy to do filtering. The search service is easy to configure, and the API call is easy to use. Cortex was also very robust and easy to use. It would have taken weeks to build this ourselves, which didn’t make sense when the capability we needed already existed.’
