Smarter Technologies Unveils AI-Driven Platform to Revolutionize Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management

TLDR: Smarter Technologies, formed by the strategic combination of Access Healthcare, SmarterDx, and Thoughtful.ai, has launched an advanced AI-powered platform aimed at optimizing administrative workflows and enhancing financial performance within healthcare revenue cycle management (RCM). Backed by New Mountain Capital, the new entity leverages proprietary virtual agents and agentic AI to address significant inefficiencies in the U.S. healthcare system.

Dallas, Texas – Smarter Technologies, a newly formed powerhouse in healthcare efficiency, officially launched its groundbreaking AI-powered revenue management platform on May 19, 2025. This strategic formation brings together three distinct entities: Access Healthcare, a leader in RCM operations; SmarterDx, known for its proprietary clinical AI for revenue integrity; and Thoughtful.ai, an AI-powered business and revenue cycle automation platform. The initiative is supported by strategic growth investments from New Mountain Capital, LLC, a prominent growth investment firm with over $55 billion in assets under management.

The platform is designed to tackle the staggering inefficiencies plaguing the U.S. healthcare system’s billing and collections processes. A McKinsey study highlighted that hospitals and health systems collectively spend over $250 billion annually on these administrative tasks, which are frequently marred by errors. Furthermore, an American Hospital Association survey revealed that 50% of hospitals and health systems reported more than $100 million in accounts receivable for claims older than six months, with commercial payer processing times increasing by nearly 20%.

Smarter Technologies aims to be the first major company to comprehensively address these challenges by deploying a modular platform that integrates agentic AI agents with scaled human-in-the-loop delivery capabilities and clinically driven billing algorithms. This unique combination is set to optimize and automate revenue management workflows across healthcare organizations’ operations.

Matt Holt, Managing Director and President, Private Equity, at New Mountain Capital, emphasized the vision: “Under a unified brand and leadership team, Smarter Technologies will leverage both human-in-the-loop administrative and clinical AI technologies combined with scaled global business process operational capabilities into one platform that automates hospitals’ existing revenue management workflows and delivers immediate ROI.” He added, “Smarter Technologies represents New Mountain Capital’s latest major platform company focused on radical modernization of the U.S. healthcare sector leveraging modern digital tools and data, at scale.”

Leading this new venture as CEO is Jeremy Delinsky, an Executive Advisor to New Mountain Capital and former CTO of athenahealth and founding COO of Devoted Health. Delinsky stated, “We view AI as healthcare’s next great productivity unlock for hospitals and health systems. That said, AI alone is not magic. It’s not a silver bullet. Enter Smarter Technologies. We are bringing together the team, talent and innovations of SmarterDx, Thoughtful.ai, and Access Healthcare to leverage the power of AI to unlock dramatically better revenue cycle outcomes for providers with minimal disruption, a high degree of flexibility and predictability, at a radically lower cost.” He also noted that providers are currently 2-5 years behind payers in leveraging AI, a gap Smarter Technologies is committed to closing rapidly.

The company’s offerings include Smarteraccess, a modular RCM service utilizing proprietary virtual agents augmented by human operators; SmarterDx, an advanced insights engine employing proprietary agentic AI, machine learning, and over 2,200 custom algorithms to identify new revenue and quality opportunities; and Thoughtful.ai, which leverages agentic agents, natural language processing (NLP), optical character recognition (OCR), and machine learning (ML) to address key RCM functions.
