TLDR: Smallest.ai, an enterprise Voice AI platform, has successfully raised $8 million in seed funding. The round was led by Sierra Ventures, with participation from several other investors. The capital will fuel the company’s mission to revolutionize enterprise communication with its high-speed, privacy-focused AI voice agents, particularly targeting the global contact center industry.
Smallest.ai, a pioneering enterprise Voice AI platform, has announced the successful closure of an $8 million seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by Silicon Valley venture capital firm Sierra Ventures, with significant participation from 3one4 Capital and Better Capital. Additional investors in the oversubscribed round included UpSparks, Schema Ventures, DeVC, Peercheque, Tiny VC, Mission Street Capital, and angel investors such as Shyamal Anandkat, Boris Wertz, and Raveen Sasrty.
Founded in 2023 by Sudarshan Kamath and Akshat Mandloi, both formerly of Robert Bosch GmbH, Smallest.ai is dedicated to transforming enterprise communication through advanced voice artificial intelligence. The company, which has a strong base in Bengaluru and is headquartered in San Francisco, aims to make fast, multilingual, and production-ready AI agents the new standard for businesses.
The newly secured capital will be utilized to accelerate the development and deployment of its innovative voice AI solutions. Smallest.ai specializes in building voice agents optimized for critical factors such as quality, latency, and privacy.
At the core of Smallest.ai’s offering is its proprietary ‘Lightning’ model, a state-of-the-art text-to-speech (TTS) technology. The company claims this model can generate ten seconds of human-quality speech in a mere 100 milliseconds, positioning it as approximately 50 times faster than many competing enterprise TTS models. This remarkable speed is crucial for real-time customer interactions and is achieved by generating multiple tokens concurrently, minimizing processing latency while maintaining high audio fidelity.
Furthermore, the Lightning model is designed for efficiency, requiring less than one gigabyte of VRAM, which allows it to run effectively on more accessible and smaller GPUs. The platform boasts support for over 100 voices and dozens of languages, and seamlessly integrates with existing CRM, telephony, messaging, and email systems, enabling enterprises to automate millions of interactions across various domains like customer support, debt collection, and pre-sales.
Smallest.ai is strategically targeting the global contact center industry, a sector that sees enterprises collectively allocate over $400 billion annually. Despite substantial investments in automation, human agents often remain central due to the shortcomings of existing AI-driven voice systems in meeting evolving customer expectations.
Sudarshan Kamath, co-founder of Smallest.ai, emphasized the company’s vision in a recent announcement: “Voice is the primary mode of communication for humans. It is what makes us human. Our voice is unique to us; it helps us express, helps us stand out, and gives us an identity. Businesses want the same humanness in every single customer interaction. They want empathy, they want personalization, and they want it at scale.” He further noted that many current voice agents are merely ‘proof of concepts’ that lack personalization and robustness for complex enterprise workflows.
Kamath articulated Smallest.ai’s mission to address these challenges: “Smallest.ai is here to solve exactly that. We are re-engineering voice agents from scratch. Our agents already handle millions of calls for some of the largest financial enterprises in the world for use cases such as customer support, collections, and sales. And yet, this is just the beginning. Our vision is to embed voice into every business, making enterprise software come alive, more seamless, more intuitive, and more human than ever before.”
