Slack Positions Itself as the Essential AI Operating System for Businesses, Moving Beyond Hype

TLDR: At Dreamforce 2025, Slack unveiled its vision to become the core operating system for AI in the enterprise, emphasizing practical applications over mere hype. With its enhanced AI assistant, Slackbot, the company aims to boost productivity by integrating intelligent, context-aware capabilities directly into daily workflows, offering ‘AI superpowers’ to employees.

At the recent Dreamforce 2025 event, a significant focus was placed on artificial intelligence, with Salesforce’s Agentforce platform drawing considerable attention. However, Slack also made a prominent appearance, articulating its ambition to evolve into the definitive operating system for AI within businesses. According to Ryan Gavin, Slack’s CMO, the company is now “where we start to move beyond the hype cycle – and really see companies who are innovating and building new capabilities.”

Slack’s strategy centers on its upgraded AI assistant, Slackbot, which is designed to deliver increased intelligence and context awareness. This enhancement is poised to unlock new levels of productivity for workers across all organizational tiers. Gavin highlighted that the integration of AI into Slack is not about introducing “whizzbang tools,” but rather about seamlessly embedding AI capabilities to meet the evolving expectations of modern work. He noted, “I can’t remember the last time I went to a website to find information – I just expect my phone to be able to tell me.” This sentiment underscores Slack’s aim to make AI an intuitive, integral part of how work gets done.

During Dreamforce, Slack made a “hard pitch” to establish itself as a true enterprise operating system. The company believes that AI can democratize access to advanced capabilities, empowering employees with “superpowers.” Gavin explained, “What you’re seeing now is a democratization of access to capability… so you may be incredible with analytics and numbers, but maybe you’re not so creative. Well guess what? Here’s a creative agent that can help you generate, and write that email a little bit better…you still have your capabilities, but now you get to have these superpowers!” He further asserted that “The businesses that think about how to maximise the potential of their employees are going to be the businesses that grow the fastest.” This vision, also echoed by Slack’s Peter Doolan who spoke of “AI superpowers” in the keynote, positions Slack as a crucial enabler for businesses looking to leverage AI responsibly and effectively to drive growth and innovation.
