Sharjah Media City (Shams) has officially launched the ‘Shams Award for Arabic Content,’ a groundbreaking initiative designed to honor and promote outstanding Arabic content creators across a wide spectrum of media disciplines. Announced on August 22, 2025, the award seeks to acknowledge originality and excellence in Arabic media, reinforcing Sharjah’s strategic vision to enhance the presence and influence of Arab content globally.

The award encompasses eight distinct categories, reflecting the evolving landscape of content creation. These categories span both traditional and emerging formats, ensuring a comprehensive recognition of talent. Key categories include Best Short Film, Best AI Video, Best Content Creator, Best Podcast, Best Male Performance, and Best Female Performance.

One of the most notable inclusions is the ‘Best AI Video’ category, which specifically targets videos created either partially or entirely using artificial intelligence. Entries in this category will be evaluated based on their originality, the seamless integration of AI with creative thought, and technological innovation. The ‘Best Short Film’ category will recognize films that deeply resonate with audiences, with judging criteria focusing on storytelling strength, visual direction, sound and visual quality, and cultural or social resonance.

Rashid Abdullah Al Obaid, Director-General of Shams, emphasized the long-term vision for the award. “The award is designed to grow year after year, keeping pace with the rapid transformations in the content landscape,” Al Obaid stated. He added that the initiative is expected to “play a pivotal role in nurturing a generation of creatives across multiple media disciplines,” by focusing on fostering talent and amplifying Arabic voices.

This initiative aligns directly with the strategic vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who has consistently championed innovation and the empowerment of Arab content creators. The ‘Shams Award for Arabic Content’ is seen as a crucial step in elevating Arab content to regional and global prominence.
