San Francisco-based Scalekit, a pioneering AI identity infrastructure firm, announced today it has successfully closed a $5.5 million seed funding round. This significant investment is earmarked for the development and launch of a dedicated authentication stack designed to secure autonomous AI agents within complex enterprise environments. The funding round was co-led by prominent venture capital firms Together Fund and Z47, with additional participation from a group of notable angel investors including Adam Frankl, Oliver Jay, and Jagadeesh Kunda.
The emergence of AI agents as integral components of business software ecosystems has exposed a critical gap in traditional identity and access management (IAM) systems. These legacy systems, primarily built to authenticate human users through browsers and manual interactions, are ill-equipped to handle the unique demands of non-human AI entities. AI agents often require short-lived sessions, interact autonomously with hundreds of diverse applications across a technology stack, and necessitate precise, ‘least-privilege’ access to sensitive data and functionalities.
Industry analysts underscore the urgency of this challenge. Gartner, for instance, projects that by 2028, compromised AI agents could be responsible for a staggering 25% of all enterprise security breaches globally. This forecast highlights the immense pressure on businesses to implement robust security measures for agentic workflows.
Satya Devarakonda, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Scalekit, articulated the company’s mission in response to this evolving threat landscape. “For years, software focused on blocking bots. Now business apps must let authenticated agents in and decide exactly what data they can read or write,” Devarakonda stated. “Scalekit sits at that intersection of verifying every agent’s identity and enforcing precise, least-privilege access through a single drop-in toolkit.”
Scalekit’s innovative authentication stack provides businesses with the tools to authenticate AI agents effectively, even in scenarios where conventional identity systems prove inadequate. The developer toolkit includes an OAuth 2.1 authorization server, capabilities for encrypting tokens, and functions for building secure tool-calling mechanisms. This enables AI agents to interact safely with widely used business applications such as Gmail, Slack, HubSpot, and Notion. The platform is designed to secure both incoming authentication for Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and outgoing agent actions to third-party platforms.
The modular design of Scalekit’s offering allows enterprises to adopt only the components they require, facilitating faster integration and deployment of new AI-driven features. Beyond its agent-centric solutions, Scalekit also provides traditional identity modules for human users, including email magic links, OTPs (One-Time Passwords), single sign-on (SSO), and machine-to-machine tokens.
Early adopters have already lauded Scalekit’s impact. Harsh Vakharia, Head of Technology at SiftHub, commented, “We needed auth that just works so we could focus on our core AI features.
