Geneva, Switzerland – The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has received a distinguished Certificate of Excellence from the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2025. The accolade was presented in recognition of SDAIA’s exemplary organization of the first global edition of the International AI Olympiad (IAIO).
The IAIO was specifically lauded as an unparalleled project within Category 7 (E-Science) during the WSIS Prizes 2025 award ceremony. This significant event took place on the sidelines of the AI for Good Summit, held in Geneva from July 8 to 11, further cementing the Olympiad’s global impact and relevance in the artificial intelligence landscape.
This recognition serves as a testament to SDAIA’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation and enhancing both national and international capacities in artificial intelligence. Through initiatives like the IAIO, SDAIA aims to empower national talents and cultivate the technological and programming skills essential for future leaders in the digital age. The Olympiad, a collaborative effort with the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), provided an international platform for AI competitions, bringing together brilliant minds from around the world.
The competitive nature of the WSIS Prizes underscores the significance of this achievement; projects awarded the Certificate of Excellence represent a mere 9% of the total submissions to the annual prizes. Organized by the UN International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the WSIS Prizes witnessed participation from over 194 countries, highlighting the intense global competition for such honors.
The International AI Olympiad itself saw robust participation, featuring 90 students from more than 25 countries, with 36 students earning medals for their exceptional performance. This broad international involvement reflects the Olympiad’s success in spreading the concept of a ‘Smart Olympiad’ among current generations and providing a vital platform for AI innovation.
