Local Legislator Champions Free AI Education for Youth, Boosting Digital Readiness

TLDR: A Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) has launched a free Artificial Intelligence course aimed at empowering the youth with crucial digital skills. This initiative aligns with broader national efforts, such as the ‘YUVAi: Youth for Unnati and Vikas with AI’ program by the Ministry of Electronics & IT, Government of India, which seeks to bridge the AI skills gap among school students from classes 8 to 12, preparing them for the future workforce.

In a significant move to bolster digital literacy and future-proof the younger generation, a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) has announced the launch of a free Artificial Intelligence (AI) course for youth. This initiative is designed to equip young minds with essential AI skills, fostering innovation and preparing them for the evolving demands of the digital economy.

The launch comes at a time when Artificial Intelligence is rapidly integrating into various aspects of daily life, yet a considerable gap exists in the public’s understanding and proficiency in this transformative technology. Recognizing this, the program aims to build digital readiness among the next-generation, ensuring they are not just consumers but also creators and human-centric designers of AI solutions.

While specific details about the MLA’s direct program are emerging, this local push resonates strongly with national initiatives like the ‘YUVAi: Youth for Unnati and Vikas with AI’ program. Launched by the National e-Governance Division, Ministry of Electronics & IT, Government of India, the YUVAi program is a comprehensive national effort targeting school students from classes 8th to 12th across the country. Its core objectives include fostering a deeper understanding of AI-tech and social skills, enabling youth to develop AI-enabled solutions, and empowering them to become responsible designers and users of AI.

The YUVAi program, which serves as a blueprint for such initiatives, operates in multiple phases. It begins with the onboarding and orientation of teachers, who then identify and guide students. Students also have the option to self-register. Following an online orientation on core AI concepts, participants are encouraged to submit innovative ideas, individually or in teams, through 120-second videos. These proposed AI-enabled solutions must address one of eight critical themes: Agriculture (Krishi), Healthcare (Aarogya), Education (Shiksha), Environment & Clean Energy (Paryavaran), Transportation (Parivahan), Rural Development (Grameen Vikas), Smart Cities, and Law & Justice (Vidhi aur Nyaay).

Notably, the program emphasizes inclusivity, requiring no prior technical understanding of generative AI. Mentors and coaches are provided to guide students step-by-step, making AI learning accessible to anyone with an inquisitive mind. Successful idea submissions lead to a ‘Certificate of Appreciation,’ with shortlisted students progressing to Phase II for online deep-dive AI training and a 3-day face-to-face boot camp for mentorship. The most innovative projects are then showcased at a national felicitation ceremony, with exclusive awards for the most inclusive, futuristic, and sustainable solutions.
