TLDR: SAP has introduced significant new agentic capabilities on its Business Technology Platform (BTP), empowering developers to build and deploy sophisticated AI agents. Announced at SAP TechEd Berlin, these innovations include AI-assisted agent design in Joule Studio, support for Agent-to-Agent (A2A) and Model Context Protocol (MCP), and enhanced integration with open-source AI frameworks. These advancements aim to drive the business AI revolution by enabling AI agents to interact seamlessly with SAP systems, leverage rich business data context, and automate complex workflows.
BERLIN, November 5, 2025 – SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) today announced a suite of groundbreaking agentic capabilities on its Business Technology Platform (BTP), designed to supercharge developers and accelerate the business AI revolution. Unveiled at SAP TechEd Berlin, these innovations underscore SAP’s commitment to making its platform more open and equipping developers with cutting-edge tools to drive business transformation.
Central to these announcements is the expansion of agent-building capabilities within Joule Studio, which is slated for general availability in December. This studio will offer developers an intuitive environment for AI-assisted agent design, enabling the creation of system-triggered agents that can autonomously interact with SAP systems. A key focus is the extensibility of SAP-delivered Joule Agents, allowing for tailored solutions that meet specific enterprise needs. The platform will also feature centralized, enterprise-grade agent monitoring, ensuring robust oversight and management of AI operations.
Further enhancing interoperability, SAP BTP will support the Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocol, facilitating secure and collaborative communication between AI agents from different vendors. Additionally, the Model Context Protocol (MCP) will be supported, providing agents with access to comprehensive data contexts. This is particularly impactful with SAP HANA Cloud, which now offers direct access to rich multi-model engines. This capability allows agents to be grounded in a full spectrum of business data, including navigating customer and supplier relationships, understanding geographic dependencies through spatial data, and performing semantic searches via vector embeddings—all within a single in-memory engine. The SAP HANA Cloud knowledge graph engine can also automatically generate knowledge graphs from SAP HANA Cloud metadata, further enriching the data foundation for AI agents.
For professional developers, SAP BTP offers extensive support for popular open-source frameworks such as Crew.AI and LangGraph, ensuring flexibility and choice in agent development. This is complemented by end-to-end identity, authorization, governance, and integration capabilities, crucial for enterprise-grade AI deployments.
Muhammad Alam, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, emphasized the impact of these developments, stating, “SAP’s announcements today give developers the tools they need to deliver at the speed of AI.” These advancements are part of a broader strategy to embed AI deep into the development process, enabling developers to move from idea to impact with unprecedented speed and confidence. SAP has also pledged to equip 12 million people worldwide with AI-ready skills by 2030, highlighting its long-term vision for an AI-driven workforce.
Accenture is already leveraging these new capabilities. Catherine Nguyen, Global Lead for SAP Business Group AI Strategy and Adoption at Accenture, noted, “Joule Studio’s agent builder connects SAP analytics with merchandising systems, powering Accenture’s Optisell agent to surface at-risk inventory, recommend pricing actions, and simplify merchandise alert configuration — all without heavy custom development.” This demonstrates the practical benefits and transformative potential of SAP’s agentic AI for real-world business challenges.
Beyond agentic capabilities, SAP is also enhancing developer productivity with new features in SAP Joule for Developers, including ABAP AI-assisted development within SAP Cloud ERP Private and AI-driven custom code migration. These improvements are designed to modernize legacy systems, boost productivity, enhance code quality, and support cloud transformation goals. Developers using SAP Build for digital workspaces will also benefit from AI-assisted content creation for generating comments, workspace content, and document summaries.
