TLDR: ClickHouse, a leader in real-time analytics databases, has acquired LibreChat, an open-source AI chat platform. This acquisition aims to create an ‘Agentic Data Stack,’ enabling organizations to deploy AI agents for analyzing large datasets through natural language, thereby democratizing data access and accelerating insights. The combined technology is already being used by companies like Shopify and cBioPortal to enhance AI workflows and research capabilities.
SAN FRANCISCO – ClickHouse, Inc., renowned for its high-performance real-time analytics database, announced on November 4, 2025, the acquisition of LibreChat, a prominent open-source AI chat platform. This strategic move is set to establish the ‘open-source Agentic Data Stack,’ a foundational technology designed to empower businesses to deploy AI agents capable of analyzing and acting upon vast datasets using natural language.
The acquisition integrates LibreChat founder Danny Avila and his team into ClickHouse, signaling a significant shift towards agentic analytics. This paradigm replaces traditional dashboard-driven interactions with intelligent agents that interpret data, trigger workflows, and facilitate real-time decision-making. According to ClickHouse CEO Aaron Katz, ‘Every breakthrough in data technology has been about reducing the distance between questions and answers. By joining forces with LibreChat, we’re tackling this distance. Now, any user can talk directly to petabytes of data and get instant, actionable insights.’
The synergy between ClickHouse’s rapid query performance and LibreChat’s flexible, multi-Large Language Model (LLM) architecture is expected to unlock a new generation of real-time, secure, powerful, and accessible data analysis agents. Dmitry Pavlov, Director of Engineering at ClickHouse, highlighted LibreChat’s ‘vibrant community that continuously innovates’ as a key factor in the acquisition.
Early adopters are already demonstrating the immediate value of this combined technology. Shopify, for instance, has integrated LibreChat into its internal AI workflows. Matt Burnett, Senior Engineer at Shopify, stated, ‘LibreChat powers reflexive AI use across Shopify. With near universal adoption and thousands of custom agents, teams use it to solve real problems, increase productivity, and keep the quality bar high. By connecting more than 30 internal MCP servers, it democratizes access to critical information across the company.’
In the healthcare sector, cBioPortal is leveraging the ClickHouse and LibreChat Agentic Data Stack to advance cancer genomics research. Ino de Bruijn, Manager Bioinformatics Software Engineering at cBioPortal, noted, ‘By leveraging the ClickHouse, MCP, and LibreChat stack, we rapidly delivered a prototype to cBioPortal users that empowered them to ask entirely new questions about cancer genomics and treatment trajectories, get quick answers, and explore data in ways not possible through the existing UI. It puts discovery at cancer researchers’ fingertips.’
Internally, ClickHouse utilizes a LibreChat-and-ClickHouse-powered agent named DWAINE (Data Warehouse AI Natural Expert). As of October 2025, DWAINE handles approximately 70% of data warehouse queries for over 200 users, processing an impressive 33 million LLM tokens daily, a significant increase from 15 million just months after its launch.
