SAP Concur Unveils Advanced AI Features for Business Travel Management

TLDR: SAP Concur has introduced new AI-powered features at GBTA + VDR Europe to enhance business travel management. These innovations, including AI agents within SAP’s copilot Joule, aim to help companies balance travel costs and requirements, ensure compliance, and improve the overall traveler experience amidst rising European business travel expenses.

SAP Concur has unveiled a suite of new AI-powered features at the GBTA + VDR Europe event, designed to revolutionize business travel management. These innovations are strategically aimed at assisting companies in navigating the complex landscape of balancing travel costs with essential travel requirements, fostering compliant and consumer-grade business travel experiences.

The announcement comes at a time when business travel bookings in Europe are experiencing a faster growth rate and becoming more expensive than the global average. Data from SAP Concur highlights a significant 4.4% rise in European air travel volume and a 4.6% increase in average airfares compared to the previous year. These escalating costs present a considerable challenge for organizations to adequately fund business travel, despite its critical strategic importance.

According to the latest SAP Concur Global Business Travel Survey, a striking 69% of travel managers concur that their company’s travel budget does not accurately reflect the importance of business travel to its success. Furthermore, 81% of CFOs reported that budget constraints prevent employees from traveling as much as needed to effectively perform their jobs. This underscores the urgent need for businesses to implement more efficient spend management strategies to maximize their travel budgets, a need that SAP Concur’s new offerings aim to address.

Central to these new capabilities is SAP’s generative AI copilot, Joule, which is now integrated into Concur Travel & Expense solutions. Joule is enhanced with AI agents capable of executing tasks and automating complex processes for users. Key AI agents being rolled out include:

Booking Agent: Currently available, this agent provides conversational guidance to generate detailed itineraries that adhere to company travel policies. It offers real-time context on pricing breakdowns and spend estimates, streamlining the booking process.

Receipt Analysis Agent: This agent is slated for rollout towards the end of the year. It leverages enhanced data inference to populate missing details, utilizes historical data to predict expense types, and performs advanced calculations to determine receipt totals, even when certain items are missing.

Meeting Location Planner Agent: Expected in early 2026, this agent will use smart location optimization to assist in planning meeting venues.

Expense Report Validation Agent: Also anticipated in early 2026, this agent will further automate and improve the accuracy of expense report processing.
