TLDR: Samsung Electronics has officially confirmed the launch of its first triple-folding smartphone by the end of 2025. The new device is set to compete with Huawei’s tri-fold model and will initially be available in select markets. The announcement was made by TM Roh, head of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Business Division, during a press conference in New York.
Samsung Electronics is set to enter a new frontier of mobile technology with the official confirmation of its first triple-folding smartphone, slated for release by the end of this year. The announcement, made by TM Roh, the head of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Business Division, positions the South Korean tech giant to directly compete with Chinese rival Huawei, which has already entered the tri-fold market with its Mate X2 Tri-Fold.
The confirmation came during a press conference on the sidelines of the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event in Brooklyn, New York. While Samsung showcased its new Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 at the main event, the news of the triple-folding device highlights the company’s commitment to innovating in the foldable category. “We are working hard on a tri-fold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year,” Roh told reporters. He added, “We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon.”
The upcoming device, which has been previewed in concepts like the Flex G and Flex S at Mobile World Congress, is rumored to be called the Galaxy G Fold. It is expected to feature a large 10-inch OLED display when fully unfurled, offering a tablet-like experience. The device is also tipped to be powered by the high-end Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
However, the initial launch of this groundbreaking device will likely be limited. Reports suggest that the first-generation model will be exclusively available in South Korea and China. Global availability for subsequent models is not expected until 2026. The price is also expected to be in the premium range, with estimates around $2,900 to $3,000.
