Redis Deepens Microsoft Alliance, Integrating Azure Managed Redis for Enterprise AI Agent Memory

TLDR: Redis has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with Microsoft, integrating Azure Managed Redis into the Microsoft Agent Framework. This collaboration aims to provide a production-ready, enterprise-grade memory infrastructure crucial for developing sophisticated AI agents and applications on Azure, emphasizing context retention, scalability, and reliability.

SAN FRANCISCO – October 1, 2025 – Redis, a leading data platform, today unveiled a major expansion of its strategic partnership with Microsoft, announcing the integration of Azure Managed Redis with the Microsoft Agent Framework. This pivotal development is set to deliver a robust, production-ready memory infrastructure specifically designed for enterprise-grade AI agents and applications.

The integration positions Azure Managed Redis as a native, enterprise-grade memory layer for Azure developers, empowering them to construct intelligent agents with enhanced speed and confidence. The collaboration addresses the evolving landscape of AI agents, which are transitioning from basic chatbots to advanced, context-aware systems capable of reasoning, orchestrating tools, and adapting over time. Memory and context are identified as central to this transformation.

Redis and Microsoft have co-developed Azure Managed Redis to offer a unified memory platform, thereby eliminating the need for developers to manage disparate vector databases or memory services. This integration allows developers to fully leverage Redis Enterprise capabilities, including the Redis Query Engine, JSON support, replication, and low-latency performance, directly within the Azure ecosystem.

Building a reliable memory layer is critical for AI agents. Insufficient data can hinder decision-making, while excessive data can lead to context window overruns, causing ‘hallucinations’ and increased operational costs. Azure Managed Redis is engineered to enable agents to retain context from every interaction, capturing individual preferences to build a comprehensive understanding of each user. This capability is expected to foster highly personalized and reliable experiences, driving the next generation of agentic web applications.

Key benefits of this expanded offering include production-ready scale and reliability, supported by built-in active-active geo-replication, high availability, and durable storage. These features ensure agents can scale globally while maintaining context across sessions. Furthermore, as a first-party Azure service, Azure Managed Redis guarantees enterprise-level security and compliance.

Amanda Silver, Corporate Vice President, Applications, Agents and Developer Experience at Microsoft, commented on the integration, stating, “Azure Managed Redis integration with Microsoft Agent Framework enables developers to build scalable, resilient and smart agentic applications at scale. Redis’s low latency & strong persistence make it a great place for developers to store knowledge used by agents.” She also noted that third-party agent memory services like Mem0 provide strong out-of-the-box Redis support, which can be combined with Foundry Agent services.

An illustrative example of this integration is its application in Microsoft’s Agent Framework Travel Agent demo, where Azure Managed Redis powers the entire memory lifecycle – from ingesting prompts and retrieving past context to orchestrating tools with Azure OpenAI and asynchronously updating memory.
