The company, founded by Nima Jalalvandi, aims to transform the accounting industry by streamlining document processing and tax software entry, initially targeting the U.S. market.
Montreal startup Ready Plan Go has announced the successful completion of a $750,000 pre-seed funding round, aimed at advancing its artificial intelligence (AI) platform to automate the laborious ‘grunt work’ often associated with accounting. This strategic investment will allow accountants to shift their focus from routine paperwork to providing higher-value tax and financial-planning advice to their clients.
The funding round saw participation from Mistral Venture Partners and 15 angel investors from Montreal’s vibrant startup ecosystem, including notable figures such as Stay22 CEO Andrew Lockhead and Firat Gezen, former president of General Dynamics Canada. Notably, founder Nima Jalalvandi also contributed to the round through the sale of his own house, underscoring his commitment to the venture.
Nima Jalalvandi, who experienced firsthand the stress of tax season while managing taxes for family and friends, described the experience as ‘spring cleaning, with none of the benefits.’ This personal insight spurred him and his co-founders to develop Ready Plan Go. The company’s software is touted as an ‘AI-powered back office’ for tax preparers, engineered to accelerate document collection, extract data efficiently from digital documents, and streamline tax software form entry.
Jalalvandi emphasized the company’s mission, stating, ‘We want to increase satisfaction so accountants feel they can do meaningful work, by creating the infrastructure layer of the back office for tax prep.’ This vision aims to enhance job satisfaction within the accounting profession by freeing up professionals from mundane tasks.
Prior to securing this pre-seed funding, Ready Plan Go participated in prestigious accelerator programs, including Station FinTech Montréal and Next AI. The company also garnered significant recognition at Startupfest, where it received two awards totaling $175,000: the 2SLGBTQIA+ Prize and the FinTech grant.
Ready Plan Go’s business model includes acquiring the client books of tax firms whose accountants are retiring or leaving the profession. The company is initially concentrating its efforts on the United States market, citing the larger client bases available there, and has already secured its first major client in Pennsylvania. The newly acquired capital will be allocated towards expanding the business and further product development. The four-person team comprises two founders with business acumen and two chartered professional accountants, combining entrepreneurial drive with deep industry expertise.
