Pump.fun Introduces ‘Mayhem Mode’ with AI Agents to Revitalize Meme Token Trading on Solana

TLDR: Pump.fun has launched an experimental ‘Mayhem Mode’ featuring AI agents designed to boost early trading volume and liquidity for newly created meme tokens on its Solana-based platform. These AI agents, including one known as ‘Agent Pumpy,’ will randomly buy and sell an additional 1 billion tokens over a 24-hour period before burning any unsold supply, aiming to inject activity into a slowing market.

Pump.fun, a prominent platform for launching meme tokens on the Solana blockchain, has unveiled an experimental ‘Mayhem Mode’ aimed at injecting liquidity and increasing early trading volume for new token launches. This new feature integrates artificial intelligence (AI) agents, including a personality known as ‘Agent Pumpy,’ to autonomously participate in the trading of newly issued meme tokens.

The introduction of Mayhem Mode comes amidst a reported slowdown in Pump.fun’s activity, with daily token creations decreasing to between 12,000 and 15,000, and active addresses hovering around 31,000. The platform’s objective is to revitalize engagement and trading dynamics in the initial stages of a token’s lifecycle.

Under Mayhem Mode, token creators must opt into the feature before launching their new token. This mode will not apply to existing tokens on the Pump.fun bonding curve or those that have already ‘graduated.’ For each meme coin launched in this mode, the AI agent will mint an additional 1 billion tokens, bringing the total supply to 2 billion. These AI agents will then engage in random buying and selling activities with these tokens over a 24-hour period.

This automated trading is expected to increase initial trading risk and volatility. After the 24-hour period concludes, any unsold tokens held by the AI agent, along with any tokens sent to its wallet during this period, will be destroyed. This burning mechanism ensures that the overall token supply is not permanently inflated by the AI’s activities. It’s important to note that, unlike some previous experiments, these AI agents will not be responsible for creating new tokens themselves.

The AI agent’s trading strategy involves random actions, and it may even sell a significant number of tokens, potentially depleting the bonding curve and preventing human traders from selling. Given the prevalence of front-running bots in the meme token space, Pump.fun anticipates that its AI agents will primarily compete with these simpler trading bots rather than directly with human traders.

The announcement of Mayhem Mode was not made through a formal press release but was instead discovered by the community through updates in the platform’s documentation. The AI agent’s wallet address was reportedly already known, which could potentially influence copy-trading activities.
