Proofpoint Unveils Groundbreaking AI-Powered Security Innovations for the Agentic Workspace

TLDR: Proofpoint has introduced four significant innovations designed to secure the emerging ‘agentic workspace,’ where human employees and AI agents collaborate. These new solutions aim to protect AI assistants from sophisticated attacks like prompt injections, ensure comprehensive data loss prevention across all channels, govern the actions of generative AI and AI agents, and leverage AI agents to automate security operations, thereby enabling organizations to safely embrace AI technologies while mitigating unprecedented risks.

Sunnyvale, California – Proofpoint, a leader in cybersecurity and compliance, has announced a suite of four major innovations aimed at securing the rapidly evolving ‘agentic workspace.’ This new environment, characterized by the seamless collaboration between human employees and AI agents, presents novel security challenges that Proofpoint’s latest offerings are designed to address.

According to Proofpoint CEO Sumit Dhawan, the agentic workspace represents “one of the most profound shifts in terms of how work gets done.” He emphasized that protecting this new frontier is the “next evolution of human-centric security,” extending protection beyond people to encompass AI agents and their data interaction points. The company’s mission is to empower customers to confidently adopt AI, assured that their data and operations are safeguarded against emerging threats.

The four key innovations focus on critical areas of AI security:

1. Detecting and Preventing AI Exploits Over Email: Attackers are increasingly embedding malicious prompts within emails to manipulate AI assistants such as Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini. These ‘prompt injection’ attacks can lead to the exfiltration of sensitive data or confuse AI-based defenses. Proofpoint’s new technologies, integrated into its Prime Threat Protection solution, are engineered to detect and block these exploits before they reach user inboxes, fostering trust in agentic workspace collaborations.

2. Unified Data Security with AI Data Governance: Recognizing data as the fastest-growing source of security risk in the AI era, Proofpoint has launched ‘Proofpoint Data Security Complete.’ This solution enables organizations to discover, classify, control access to, and monitor sensitive data across all channels, including endpoints, email, web, and cloud applications. It features Autonomous Custom Classifiers for highly accurate data classification with minimal human intervention and provides a consolidated data risk map with one-click remediations. Complementing this, ‘Proofpoint AI Data Governance’ helps organizations identify both sanctioned and unsanctioned AI usage, enforce policies to prevent data leaks, and manage access through automated workflows.

3. Proofpoint Secure Agent Gateway: As AI agents deployed by organizations now handle sensitive information, they require the same level of protection as human counterparts. The ‘Proofpoint Secure Agent Gateway,’ built using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), controls how AI agents access data, monitors their activities, enforces usage policies, and can block or redact sensitive data before it’s shared with humans or other agents. This gateway, in conjunction with Data Security Complete, offers a pioneering solution for securing data across both human and AI agents.

4. Proofpoint Satoriâ„¢ Agents and Satoriâ„¢ MCP Access: To act as a force multiplier for security teams, Proofpoint is deploying its own AI agents. ‘Proofpoint Satoriâ„¢ Agents’ operate within Proofpoint solutions to automate tasks such as handling data loss prevention alerts, recommending phishing simulations, and resolving user-reported email threats. This automation aims to streamline security operations, reduce repetitive tasks, and combat alert fatigue. Furthermore, ‘Proofpoint Satoriâ„¢ MCP Access’ allows external agents from platforms like CrowdStrike and Microsoft Copilot to invoke Proofpoint Satori Agents, facilitating cross-platform collaboration to accelerate security operations and improve overall outcomes.

Ryan Kalember, Proofpoint’s chief strategy officer, highlighted the transformative nature of these innovations: “By uniting collaboration and data security, we are redefining how organizations secure work in the age of AI. Proofpoint is the first to deliver a solution that enables organizations to find where their data is, understand what it is, and protect what both people and agents do with it, giving them the confidence to innovate, collaborate, and scale safely with AI woven into their most critical workflows.”

These new capabilities are slated for phased rollout across Proofpoint’s platform. AI exploit detection over email is expected in Q4 2025, while Proofpoint Data Security Complete is available starting Q3 2025, with additional features planned over the subsequent two quarters. Proofpoint Secure Agent Gateway and Proofpoint Satori Agents are anticipated to become available in phases beginning in 2026.
