Project Zilal: Ballsy and Vision Machina Introduce Human-Powered AI Music Group

TLDR: Creative agency Ballsy and generative AI technology studio Vision Machina have launched ‘Project Zilal,’ an AI-powered music band that aims to prioritize human creativity and diverse representation in the age of artificial intelligence. The initiative, featuring two Hijabi women, Zayna and Ella, and a robot named Mecka, will begin with a reality show to find real Hijabi Muslim talent to drive the band’s voice and personality, challenging the ‘AI for AI’s sake’ trend.

In a bold move to redefine the landscape of AI-driven entertainment, creative agency Ballsy and generative AI technology studio Vision Machina have officially launched ‘Project Zilal.’ Unveiled on October 27, 2025, the initiative introduces an AI-powered music band designed to champion human creativity and address the lack of diversity often seen in AI-generated content. The project’s name, ‘Zilal,’ meaning ‘shadow’ in Arabic, hints at its hybrid nature, blending human and digital elements.

Project Zilal features two AI-generated Hijabi women, Zayna and Ella, alongside a robot named Mecka. This unique composition emphasizes collaboration between humans and technology rather than replacement. VJ Anand, co-founder and CCO of Ballsy, highlighted that the intellectual property (IP) was developed as a direct response to the prevailing lack of diversity in AI-generated entertainment, aiming to infuse soul into the AI band.

The launch will commence with a reality show, a strategic move to discover and feature real Hijabi Muslim talent. These individuals will serve as the authentic voices and personalities behind the band, ensuring that the emotional core of the music remains deeply human. Following the reality show, Project Zilal plans to expand into producing music, music videos, and potentially branded content and merchandise.

Donovan Ratnasingam, founder and chief storyteller at Vision Machina, described Project Zilal as a ‘generative-AI social experiment.’ He articulated a clear distinction from current trends, stating, ‘Most of what we see today is just AI for the sake of AI, flashy visuals, zero soul. Project Zilal is different. It’s a hybrid creation where the faces may be AI, but the voices, personalities, and emotions come from real people.’ Ratnasingam emphasized that the project is not about displacing artists but about creating a platform for those who have historically been unheard.

This initiative represents a new paradigm in creative IP, advocating for a future where humans and machines co-create. By integrating representation, music, and AI-driven visuals, Ballsy and Vision Machina aspire to demonstrate that technology can amplify human imagination, rather than diminish it. They are also extending an invitation to brands and platforms to join them as collaborators in what is both a cultural experiment and an entertainment venture.
