TLDR: Seattle-area startup Pokee AI, founded by former Meta manager Zheqing (Bill) Zhu, has successfully closed a $12 million oversubscribed seed funding round. Led by Point72 Ventures, with significant participation from Qualcomm and Samsung, the capital will fuel the development of Pokee AI’s general-purpose AI agents designed to automate complex online workflows across thousands of internet tools with claimed accuracy exceeding 97%.
Pokee AI, an emerging startup based in the Seattle area, has announced a substantial $12 million seed funding round aimed at advancing its innovative AI agents for automating online workflows. The funding round, which was reportedly three times oversubscribed, was spearheaded by Point72 Ventures, with additional investments from industry giants Qualcomm and Samsung. Other notable backers include Salience Capital, SCB 10X, Typeface founder Abhay Parasnis, and former Intel board member Lip-bu Tan.
Founded last year by Zheqing (Bill) Zhu, a former Meta manager and Stanford Ph.D., Pokee AI is on a mission to tackle what it identifies as the ‘execution problem’ in the AI world. Zhu, who serves as the company’s CEO, stated, ‘The AI world has solved the generation problem, but no one has solved the execution problem. We want to solve the execution problem.’ The company’s core offering is a general-purpose AI agent engineered to plan, reason, and execute actions across a vast array of internet tools and platforms.
Unlike many AI agent startups that primarily rely on large language models (LLMs), Pokee AI distinguishes itself by integrating reinforcement learning. This approach allows its agents to efficiently sequence and utilize tools through a process of trial and error, leading to what the company claims is ‘over 97% accuracy when selecting from thousands of tools.’ This method is designed to circumvent the limitations often associated with function-calling via LLMs by offloading the planning phase to a custom-built AI agent.
The applications for Pokee AI’s technology are broad, ranging from generating marketing videos and formatting slides to posting on social media. An early and promising use case highlighted by the company is social media marketing, where the agent can autonomously create content, enhance media, post across various platforms, and monitor engagement.
