Hanoi, Vietnam – In a landmark recognition of groundbreaking advancements in artificial intelligence, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and four other leading computer scientists were collectively honored with the $3 million VinFuture Grand Prize in December 2024. The esteemed recipients include Yoshua Bengio, a professor at the University of Montreal and founder of the Mila Institute; Geoffrey E. Hinton, a professor at the University of Toronto; Yann LeCun, Vice President and Chief AI Scientist at Meta and a professor at New York University; and Fei-Fei Li, a professor at Stanford University.
The award celebrates their pioneering work that has fundamentally shaped the field of deep learning and artificial intelligence. Each laureate has made distinct yet interconnected contributions:
Yoshua Bengio is recognized for his pivotal research on artificial neural networks, particularly in representation learning and generative models, which are crucial for how AI systems understand and create data.
Geoffrey E. Hinton, also a recipient of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics for his AI contributions, was lauded for his foundational work that laid much of the theoretical groundwork for modern AI.
Jensen Huang received acclaim for his visionary leadership in transforming graphics processing units (GPUs) into indispensable tools for deep learning and accelerated computing.
