Liverpool is gearing up to host its second annual City Region AI Summit on October 23, 2025, at the ACC Liverpool waterfront venue. The event is expected to draw an impressive 800 delegates, reinforcing the region’s ambition to be a global leader in ‘AI for Good.’
This year’s summit will build on the success of its predecessor, bringing together a diverse group of experts, including global industry leaders, academic researchers, and innovative local businesses.
The summit’s core focus is to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in enriching lives and tackling pressing real-world challenges, all while fostering a fairer and more inclusive society. Discussions will be structured across four stages, featuring awe-inspiring stories from scientists who are harnessing AI to revolutionize society and individual lives.
Keynote speakers for the event include Oxford University Professor Michael Wooldridge, known for presenting the televised Royal Institution Christmas Lectures on AI in 2023. He will be joined by Mike Bracken CBE, the founder and former executive director of the UK Government Digital Service (GDS) and the UK’s first Government Chief Data Officer. The summit will also feature representatives from Europe, Australia, and the US, adding an international dimension to the proceedings. Notably, the Liverpool City Region’s newly appointed Chief AI Officer – a first for a Combined Authority – will also address the delegates.
The agenda is designed around three key ‘AI for Good’ themes: ‘AI in Innovation and Industry,’ covering areas like Health and Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, and Transport; ‘AI in the Workplace,’ focusing on Education, Skills, and Careers; and ‘AI in Society,’ which will delve into Inclusion and Literacy, Sustainability and Environment, and Ethics.
Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has emphasized the region’s dedication to ethical and inclusive AI, stating, ‘AI is already changing the way we live and work – but here in the Liverpool City Region, we’re showing how it can be a force for good.’ He highlighted the region’s talent, world-class facilities, and ambition to become the UK’s home for ethical AI. Kir Nuthi, Head of AI and Data at techUK, added that the summit has become a ‘landmark event in the UK’s technology calendar,’ showcasing AI’s potential to boost productivity and improve lives.
The event will be hosted by BBC presenter Jo Coburn, with the innovative addition of AI-powered avatars to support the proceedings. Beyond the main summit, a special Youth AI Summit will be held at The Spine in Knowledge Quarter Liverpool on October 20, hosting 200 students from across the city region, giving young people a voice in the future of AI.
