Perplexity AI and Visa Forge Partnership for Advanced Personalized AI Commerce

TLDR: Perplexity AI has announced a strategic partnership with Visa to transform online shopping through hyper-personalized, AI-driven experiences. The collaboration will integrate Visa’s personalization APIs with Perplexity’s platform, enabling smarter recommendations based on transactional data while prioritizing user control and privacy with features like ‘Super Memory’ and granular third-party data toggles. This initiative is a significant step towards ‘agentic commerce,’ where AI autonomously manages shopping tasks.

Perplexity AI and global payments technology company Visa have officially announced a groundbreaking partnership aimed at revolutionizing the landscape of personalized commerce. The collaboration, revealed on November 2, 2025, seeks to introduce smarter, more context-aware shopping experiences by integrating Visa’s sophisticated personalization APIs into Perplexity’s artificial intelligence platform.

The core of this partnership lies in leveraging vast transactional data to deliver highly refined and tailored shopping recommendations. Perplexity AI is actively developing new features focused on user personalization and memory, including a ‘Super Memory’ capability designed to offer innovative ways for users to retrieve contextual data.

A critical aspect of this integration is the emphasis on user control and privacy. Perplexity is developing features such as an ‘Edit Third-Party Personalization’ setting, which allows users to explicitly toggle third-party providers like Visa. This ensures that Perplexity will only sync personalization tokens from these sources if the user enables them, and disabling a provider will remove its data from Perplexity’s system. This granular control is designed to prevent the exposure of users’ Perplexity data to external providers, addressing growing consumer concerns about data security in digital transactions.

This initiative aligns with Visa’s broader ‘Intelligent Commerce’ platform, which aims to power secure, AI-driven commerce globally. Visa has been vocal about its ambition to enable AI agents to deliver personalized services based on user preferences and transaction history. Jack Forestell, Visa’s Chief Product and Strategy Officer, stated, ‘Soon people will have AI agents browse, select, purchase and manage on their behalf. These agents will need to be trusted with payments, not only by users, but by banks and sellers as well.’

The partnership marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of ‘agentic commerce,’ where AI autonomously manages shopping and payment processes. By integrating with Visa’s secure ecosystem, Perplexity AI aims to streamline user experiences by providing context-aware suggestions, thereby enhancing both consumer satisfaction and merchant sales figures.

While these advanced personalization features are currently hidden and in active development, their introduction signals Perplexity’s strategic move to differentiate itself by embracing trusted partnerships and fine-tuned user controls. This collaboration is expected to reshape how users interact with generative AI platforms, making them more adaptive to individual habits and preferences.
