OrbitMI Enhances Maritime AI Capabilities with Acquisition of AuQub

TLDR: Maritime technology innovator OrbitMI has acquired Quebec-based artificial intelligence firm AuQub to integrate advanced AI agents into its platform, aiming to boost intelligent workflows, automate tasks, and optimize operational processes across the maritime industry. As part of the deal, AuQub co-founder Alexandre Lapointe has been appointed OrbitMI’s new Chief Product Officer.

New York-based OrbitMI, a leading digital solutions provider in the maritime sector, announced on July 21, 2025, its strategic acquisition of AuQub, a Quebec-based artificial intelligence (AI) firm. This move is set to significantly deepen OrbitMI’s investment in intelligent, connected workflows by embedding AuQub’s advanced AI agents directly into its existing platform.

AuQub specializes in developing AI agents designed to automate repetitive tasks and optimize operational processes, thereby enhancing productivity through more efficient decision-making. By integrating AuQub’s innovative and accessible SaaS solutions, OrbitMI aims to strengthen its real-time analytical tools, enabling shipowners and operators to better anticipate regulatory changes, optimize voyages in real time, and make smarter, data-driven decisions across their entire fleets.

Ali Riaz, CEO of OrbitMI, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating, “Artificial intelligence is central to our mission of making maritime more intelligent. With AuQub’s technology and talent now part of OrbitMI, we’re accelerating our ability to turn data into insight and insight into action—across the entire maritime value chain.” This sentiment was echoed by Nick Chubb of Thetius, a UK-based maritime tech consultancy, who noted via LinkedIn that this acquisition represents a unique ‘acqui-hire’ of expertise specifically in agentic AI, rather than just large language models.

As a key component of the acquisition, AuQub co-founder Alexandre Lapointe has been appointed as OrbitMI’s new Chief Product Officer. Lapointe brings over 30 years of experience in software development and digital transformation, with a strong focus on product integration and enterprise finance. He also co-founded 8thSea. Commenting on his new role, Lapointe expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m truly excited to join OrbitMI and contribute to its vision for a more intelligent and connected maritime industry. Artificial intelligence has the power to transform how businesses operate, and I look forward to applying that potential in ways that deliver real value to our customers. It’s a privilege to work alongside a team so committed to innovation and impact.”
