New York-based OrbitMI, a leading digital solutions provider in the maritime sector, announced on July 21, 2025, its strategic acquisition of AuQub, a Quebec-based artificial intelligence (AI) firm. This move is set to significantly deepen OrbitMI’s investment in intelligent, connected workflows by embedding AuQub’s advanced AI agents directly into its existing platform.
AuQub specializes in developing AI agents designed to automate repetitive tasks and optimize operational processes, thereby enhancing productivity through more efficient decision-making. By integrating AuQub’s innovative and accessible SaaS solutions, OrbitMI aims to strengthen its real-time analytical tools, enabling shipowners and operators to better anticipate regulatory changes, optimize voyages in real time, and make smarter, data-driven decisions across their entire fleets.
Ali Riaz, CEO of OrbitMI, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating, “Artificial intelligence is central to our mission of making maritime more intelligent. As a key component of the acquisition, AuQub co-founder Alexandre Lapointe has been appointed as OrbitMI’s new Chief Product Officer. Lapointe brings over 30 years of experience in software development and digital transformation, with a strong focus on product integration and enterprise finance. He also co-founded 8thSea.
