TLDR: Oppo announced an ‘enhanced’ AI strategy at MWC 2025, aiming to bring generative AI capabilities to 100 million global users by the end of 2025, with India playing a central role. The company emphasizes that AI will augment human abilities and that smartphones will evolve into empathetic, intelligent collaborators, rather than replacing human roles.
At MWC 2025, Oppo unveiled its ‘enhanced’ artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, setting an ambitious goal to deliver generative AI capabilities to 100 million users worldwide by the close of 2025. India is deemed ‘central’ to achieving this objective, as stated by Peter Dohyung Lee, Head of Product Strategy at Oppo, during the Reno 14 series launch in the country. Lee highlighted India’s tech-savvy population and its rapid adoption of AI, making it ‘one of the most exciting markets for GenAI.’
Oppo’s vision for AI is not one of human replacement, but rather enhancement and collaboration. Lee articulated this philosophy, stating, ‘The future is not about humans vs AI, but it’s about humans and AI, a partnership where technology enhances what we already do, not replaces it.’ The company views AI as a fundamental shift in innovation, making technology more personal, useful, and intuitive. AI is already deeply integrated into Oppo’s products, influencing features like the HyperTone Image Engine for improved portraits and SuperVOOC fast charging.
Smartphones, according to Oppo, will evolve beyond mere smart devices into ‘intelligent collaborators.’ These future phones will understand context, anticipate user needs, and provide real-time support for tasks ranging from creativity to communication. This AI-powered future will prioritize empathy, privacy, and user control. Oppo is actively collaborating with industry leaders such as Google, Microsoft, MediaTek, and Qualcomm to explore broader possibilities for AI phones while ensuring responsible data handling and privacy safeguards.

To drive this initiative, Oppo established the Oppo AI Centre in 2024, centralizing resources for systematic AI development. The company aims to make AI accessible to everyone, including users of entry-level smartphones, by minimizing resource usage. Oppo plans to introduce over 100 Generative AI capabilities across its entire lineup by the end of 2024, targeting nearly 50 million users globally, and doubling that to 100 million by the end of 2025. New AI innovations, such as AI Call Translator and AI VoiceScribe, are slated for future updates, with Oppo committing to an average of one new AI update per month.
