Meta Introduces ‘Imagine Me’ AI Feature for Personalized Image Generation in India

TLDR: Meta has officially launched its AI-powered ‘Imagine Me’ feature in India, allowing users to create personalized AI-generated images of themselves using text prompts on platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook. This tool enables users to transform their likeness into various imaginative scenarios and styles, enhancing creative expression within digital conversations.

Meta has rolled out its innovative AI-powered ‘Imagine Me’ feature to users across India, making it available on popular platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. This new tool, which was globally unveiled in July 2024 and previously launched in the US and other regions, allows individuals to generate unique, personalized images of themselves through simple text prompts.

Users can initiate a conversation with @Meta AI within their personal or group chats and use prompts like ‘Imagine me as a 90s rockstar’ or ‘Imagine me as a comic book hero.’ To facilitate the creation of these customized visuals, first-time users are prompted to upload a few setup photos, including front, left, and right angles of their face. This allows Meta AI to analyze their facial features and physical attributes, generating an image that combines the user’s likeness with the chosen theme or scenario. The generated images are designed to be playful and stylized, rather than aiming for photo-realism, which helps differentiate them from deepfakes.

Meta emphasizes user privacy and control with ‘Imagine Me.’ Users have the ability to update or remove their setup photos at any time through Meta AI settings. They can also manage preferences, retake images, or disable the feature entirely. The tool is designed to be locked to a single individual per setup, preventing its use for generating images of others and ensuring ethical use of facial data. Images created using Meta’s own AI tools will carry a watermark that says ‘Imagined with AI’ to indicate their origin.

This launch signifies Meta’s broader strategy to integrate generative AI more deeply into its widely used messaging platforms, offering a novel way for users to engage with technology and express their creativity within everyday digital interactions. The feature aims to provide a fun and expressive way for users to visualize themselves in fantastical or artistic settings, transforming selfies into storytelling.
