Google’s AI-Powered Virtual Try-On Feature Rolls Out Widely; Nike Explores Conversational AI

TLDR: Google has officially launched its AI-powered virtual try-on tool for clothing, making it available across Google Search, Shopping, and Images. This feature allows users to upload a photo and visualize how apparel items would look on them. Concurrently, Nike is reportedly in beta testing for an in-app conversational AI.

Google has announced the widespread availability of its innovative AI-powered virtual try-on tool, a significant advancement in online retail. This feature, initially introduced earlier this year, is now accessible to shoppers across the U.S. through product listings in Google Search, Shopping, and Images. The tool leverages artificial intelligence to enable users to upload their own photos and virtually ‘try on’ clothing items, providing a more personalized and realistic shopping experience. This rollout includes billions of items from major retailers such as Macy’s, Kohl’s, Walmart, and Nordstrom.

This virtual try-on capability is part of Google’s broader strategy to integrate AI into its retail offerings. The company also announced other AI-driven shopping enhancements, including smarter price alerts that allow users to specify preferred prices, sizes, and colors for items. Furthermore, Google plans to introduce a tool for outfit and room inspiration using generative imagery, set to launch this fall as part of ‘AI Mode,’ Google’s new AI-powered search experience. According to Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, AI Mode, powered by Google’s Gemini model, is already gaining traction with over 100 million monthly active users in the U.S. and India, with continuous enhancements planned.
