OpenAI Strengthens Product Division with $1.1 Billion Acquisition of Analytics Firm Statsig and Executive Team Reshuffle

TLDR: OpenAI has acquired product analytics company Statsig for $1.1 billion, a move aimed at significantly enhancing its product development capabilities. As part of the deal, Statsig founder and CEO Vijaye Raji will join OpenAI as the new CTO of Applications, reporting to Fidji Simo. This strategic acquisition, alongside other executive changes, underscores OpenAI’s commitment to accelerating the translation of its advanced AI research into market-ready applications like ChatGPT.

OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence research and deployment company, announced on September 2, 2025, its acquisition of Statsig, a prominent product analytics firm, for an estimated $1.1 billion. This significant investment is poised to bolster OpenAI’s product division and accelerate its efforts in bringing advanced AI applications to market.

The acquisition includes a major executive reshuffle, with Statsig’s founder and CEO, Vijaye Raji, stepping into the role of OpenAI’s new Chief Technology Officer of Applications. Raji will report directly to Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications. This strategic appointment is expected to infuse OpenAI with a strong product development discipline, leveraging Raji’s extensive experience, including a decade at Meta where he honed his philosophy of rapid experimentation and data-informed decisions.

Statsig specializes in critical tools such as A/B testing, feature flagging, and real-time decisioning, which are essential for refining complex products at scale. OpenAI was already a customer of Statsig, and this acquisition will deeply integrate these capabilities into its operations. The move is seen as a direct injection of Big Tech product discipline into OpenAI’s traditionally research-heavy culture, aiming to translate its groundbreaking AI research into intuitive and impactful applications.

Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications, praised Raji’s leadership, stating, “his leadership will help turn that progress into safe applications that empower people with many new tools to improve their lives, help companies increase their impact and allow developers to build faster and better products.” Raji echoed this sentiment, remarking, “the journey with Statsig has been deeply gratifying, leading me to this moment and giving me conviction that we will continue helping teams ship better software every day,” framing the move as a continuation of his work under a broader mission.
