OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently underscored the pivotal role of Indian users in shaping the company’s product development, citing their feedback across language support, affordability, and access. During his appearance on Nikhil Kamath’s ‘People by WTF’ podcast, Altman highlighted India’s burgeoning importance to the generative AI leader.
Altman remarked, ‘If there is one large society in the world that seems most enthusiastic to transform with AI right now, it’s India. The excitement, the embrace of AI… the energy is incredible.’ He further added, ‘The entrepreneurial energy around building with AI in India is quite amazing, and we hope to see much more of it.’
India currently stands as OpenAI’s second-largest market globally, trailing only the United States, but Altman suggested it ‘may well become our largest market.’ He described India as ‘incredibly fast-growing,’ noting that ‘what users are doing with AI, what citizens of India are doing with AI, is really quite remarkable.’ OpenAI is particularly focused on tailoring products for India, collaborating with local partners to ensure AI solutions are effective and affordable across the country.
