The Open Institute of Technology (OPIT), a leading global online educational institution, officially launched its innovative artificial intelligence agent, ‘OPIT AI Copilot,’ on July 14, 2025. This marks OPIT as one of the first institutions in Europe to introduce a bespoke AI assistant tailored for both its student body and faculty.
Developed by an in-house team comprising faculty, engineers, and researchers, OPIT AI Copilot is a sophisticated tool trained on OPIT’s comprehensive educational archive, accumulated over the past three years. This vast dataset includes 131 courses, approximately 3,500 hours of video content, and 320 certified assessments, among other valuable resources.
For students, OPIT AI Copilot offers real-time, adaptive responses that evolve with their progress, providing direct links to referenced sources within the virtual learning environment. The AI is context-aware, understanding a student’s current position in their course modules and avoiding the revelation of information from unreleased sections, ensuring a fully integrated and guided learning experience. Crucially, during examination periods, the AI assistant transitions into an ‘anti-cheating’ mode, shifting from a study aid to a basic research tool and disabling direct answers on exam-related topics. This 24/7 operational capability is particularly beneficial for OPIT’s diverse community of 350 students from over 80 countries, many of whom are working professionals balancing their studies with career and personal commitments.
The benefits extend to faculty and staff as well. OPIT AI Copilot assists educators by grading assignments and generating educational materials, thereby freeing up valuable resources that can be redirected towards teaching and direct student engagement. The AI also provides professors and tutors with self-assessment tools and feedback rubrics, which are projected to reduce correction time by up to 30%.
