Mouser Electronics Now Stocks MediaTek’s Genio 720 and 520 Gen-AI IoT SoCs for Advanced Edge AI Applications

TLDR: Mouser Electronics has announced the availability of MediaTek’s new Genio 720 and Genio 520 high-performance Generative AI (Gen-AI) IoT Systems-on-Chip (SoCs). These 6nm platforms are designed to bring powerful edge AI capabilities, including support for large language models, to a wide range of smart, industrial, and commercial IoT devices, featuring a robust 10 TOPS AI accelerator and comprehensive connectivity options.

Mouser Electronics, a leading global distributor of electronic components, is now offering the MediaTek Genio 720 and Genio 520 high-performance Generative AI (Gen-AI) IoT Systems-on-Chip (SoCs). These cutting-edge platforms are poised to revolutionize the landscape of advanced IoT applications by integrating powerful artificial intelligence capabilities directly at the edge.

MediaTek officially introduced these new additions to its Genio series at Embedded World in March 2025, highlighting their support for the latest generative AI models, human-machine interface (HMI), advanced multimedia, and robust connectivity features. The Genio 720 and Genio 520 are built on a highly efficient 6nm process node, ensuring optimal performance with low power consumption, making them suitable for fanless designs and battery-powered devices.

At the heart of these SoCs is a formidable AI engine, delivering a best-in-class 10 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) performance. This is achieved through a combination of their Neural Processing Unit (NPU), CPU, and GPU, with the NPU being MediaTek’s 8th-generation design, offering full hardware acceleration for complex transformer and convolutional neural network (CNN) models. This significant AI processing power enables on-device generative AI capabilities, enhancing user experience while prioritizing data privacy.

Both the Genio 720 and Genio 520 feature an octa-core CPU configuration, including two Arm Cortex-A78 processors clocked up to 2.6GHz in the Genio 720. They support up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, a crucial feature for handling data-intensive edge-optimized large language models (LLMs) such as Llama, Gemini, Phi, and DeepSeek, thereby accelerating generative AI tasks across various applications.

Multimedia capabilities are extensive, with the Genio 720 supporting up to 5K high-detail single displays or dual active displays, alongside 4K HEVC video decoding and encoding. The platform also accommodates up to six FHD30 cameras with MIPI virtual channels, providing flexibility for sophisticated vision-based applications. Connectivity is robust, featuring pre-integrated MediaTek Wi-Fi 6/6E solutions and support for future Wi-Fi 7 and 5G Redcap modules.

Developers benefit from versatile operating system support, including Android, Yocto Linux, and Ubuntu. The platforms also support an Open Standard Module (OSM) design, which, along with reference designs, aims to significantly shorten development cycles. MediaTek emphasizes a long product life commitment of over 10 years and ensures reliability with a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +105°C.
