Moonvalley Unveils Marey: The First Ethically Sourced, Commercially Safe AI Video Model for Filmmakers

TLDR: Moonvalley has officially launched Marey, an AI video generation model designed specifically for filmmakers. Billed as the first commercially safe and ethically trained AI video tool, Marey was developed using only licensed, high-resolution footage, avoiding common copyright pitfalls. It offers advanced controls for cinematic production and aims to democratize high-quality video creation.

Los Angeles, CA – July 10, 2025 – Moonvalley, in collaboration with AI studio Asteria, has announced the full public release of Marey, an innovative AI video generation model poised to redefine the landscape of digital filmmaking. Following a successful beta launch in March, Marey is being hailed as the world’s first commercially safe and ethically trained AI video model, addressing growing concerns over intellectual property and data sourcing in the generative AI space.

Marey distinguishes itself by being meticulously trained exclusively on licensed, high-resolution footage, deliberately avoiding scraped content, user submissions, or any data from legal ‘gray zones.’ This commitment to ethical sourcing directly contrasts with the practices of some other AI firms, which have faced litigation, such as the recent lawsuits against Midjourney by major studios like Disney and NBCUniversal over copyright claims.

Designed with professional filmmakers in mind, Marey offers an unprecedented level of control, consistency, and fidelity. It is a ‘3D-aware’ model, providing more granular creative controls than standard text-to-video models. Users can generate video clips up to five seconds long, a standard duration for publicly available video generation models, and perform complex visual effects (VFX).

Key features of Marey include full directional control, enabling users to create cinematic camera movements from a single image and transform 2D scenes into 3D environments. This allows filmmakers to direct the camera as if they were on a physical set, providing the precision and responsiveness needed to shape each frame with intent and authorship. The model is expected to streamline workflows for ideation, pre-production, and content creation.

The industry has already taken notice. Effects pioneer Ed Ulbrich, known for his work on films like ‘Titanic’ and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,’ recently joined Moonvalley in a senior executive role, citing Marey’s ‘clean’ and ethical approach as a significant motivation. Independent filmmaker Ángel Manuel Soto lauded Marey’s potential to democratize access to advanced AI storytelling tools, particularly for creators who have historically faced barriers in traditional filmmaking.

Moonvalley has made Marey available through a credits-based subscription model, with pricing tiers set at $14.99 for 100 credits, $34.99 for 250 credits, and $149.99 for 1,000 credits.

The model’s name, ‘Marey,’ pays homage to Etienne-Jules Marey, a 19th-century French scientist and pioneer in chronophotography, whose inventions predated the Lumière Brothers’ first camera. Moonvalley aims to continue this legacy of innovation by providing filmmakers with a powerful yet responsible tool for the future of video production.
