Luma AI Establishes ‘Dream Lab LA’ to Pioneer AI Integration in Filmmaking

TLDR: Generative AI company Luma AI has launched ‘Dream Lab LA’ in Los Angeles, an initiative designed to merge advanced AI technology with filmmaking expertise. This new hub aims to empower filmmakers and studios with cutting-edge AI-driven video tools, fostering a collaborative environment for experimentation, education, and the development of next-generation storytelling.

Los Angeles, CA – Luma AI, a leading generative AI company, officially announced the launch of its groundbreaking initiative, ‘Dream Lab LA,’ headquartered in Los Angeles. Unveiled on July 10, 2025, Dream Lab LA is envisioned as a pivotal ‘creative engine room’ dedicated to integrating artificial intelligence seamlessly into the filmmaking process, empowering a new era of storytelling.

The core mission of Dream Lab LA is to serve as a collaborative nexus where Hollywood veterans, emerging storytellers, major studios, and innovative minds can converge to explore and define the future of narrative creation. According to a Luma AI press release, the lab is designed to shape ‘the next era of storytelling — before it arrives.’ The company emphasizes that Dream Lab LA exists to ’empower creativity, not replace it,’ providing a vital space for experimentation, education, and collaboration between technology and artistic vision.

Dream Lab LA will facilitate several key functions: it will enable filmmakers to collaborate, learn, and craft new narratives; offer studios embedded support to modernize their workflows and upskill their teams in AI applications; and encourage ‘curious daredevils’ to push creative boundaries and experiment freely with AI tools.

Leading this ambitious endeavor is Verena Puhm, appointed as the head of the studio. Puhm brings extensive experience from both traditional and AI-driven storytelling, having shaped content for global entities such as CNN, BBC, Netflix, Red Bull Media, and Leonine Studios. As an early adopter of AI in filmmaking, her projects have garnered recognition from prestigious platforms like Sundance, Project Odyssey, Curious Refuge, and OpenAI’s Sora Selects. In her new role, Puhm will spearhead the studio’s vision for next-generation content and oversee a slate of productions. Puhm stated, ‘I believe the future of storytelling should be shaped by the people who tell stories, not just the people who build the tools. We’re cultivating a community, a creative lab, and a launchpad for what’s next. This isn’t just another platform; it’s a creative studio built from the ground up to blend technological innovation with artistic intention.’

Amit Jain, CEO and founder of Luma AI, underscored the lab’s forward-looking approach, stating, ‘Dream Lab LA is where we build what everyone else is still guessing at. This is not about chasing trends, this is about defining what’s next.’

Further strengthening the leadership team, Jon Finger joins as creative workflow executive. With over 15 years at the intersection of emerging technology and content creation, Finger is a pioneer in areas like at-home motion capture, 3D scanning, and virtual production, having worked with brands such as Paramount Network and Netflix. His recent focus has been on integrating AI into filmmaking workflows, giving creators physicalized control over AI-driven productions. Finger commented, ‘The focus here is to find the best experiences for passionate creatives. The world is changing quickly, and we want to find the best ways for fun, fulfilling human-centric creative expression to not only continue but be amplified, so more creative people can find a new prosperous way forward.’
