Microsoft Unifies Marketplaces to Streamline AI Agent and Cloud Solution Adoption for Businesses

TLDR: Microsoft has launched a new unified ‘Microsoft Marketplace,’ merging its Azure Marketplace and Microsoft AppSource into a single platform. This initiative aims to simplify the discovery, purchasing, and integration of AI agents, cloud solutions, and AI apps for businesses, offering over 3,000 solutions at launch and facilitating seamless integration with Microsoft products like Office and Teams.

Redmond, WA – September 25, 2025 – Microsoft today announced a significant strategic move to accelerate enterprise AI adoption by consolidating its existing digital storefronts into a single, comprehensive ‘Microsoft Marketplace.’ This new platform combines the functionalities of the Azure Marketplace, previously focused on developer tools and cloud solutions, and Microsoft AppSource, which catered to productivity and AI-powered workplace applications. The unified marketplace, initially launched in the U.S. and slated for global rollout, promises a simpler and more confident purchasing experience for businesses seeking AI agents, cloud solutions, and AI apps.

The initiative addresses a growing demand for AI integration within enterprises, as highlighted by the 2025 Work Trend Index Annual Report, which states that while 81% of leaders plan to integrate AI agents into their strategy, only 24% have successfully deployed them organization-wide. This gap underscores the challenges businesses face in identifying trusted solutions and effectively integrating them into daily workflows.

Cyril Belikoff, Microsoft’s Vice President for Cloud and AI Marketing, emphasized the company’s vision: “AI is not just a technology shift. It’s a business reinvigoration transformation. It’s a big platform shift.” Belikoff added, “When we talk to businesses and leaders, they’re very clear about needing help with speed, simplicity and confidence as they adopt AI. And so our approach and our vision really is to help customers move from experimentation to scale with a set of trusted tools, responsible frameworks, and, of course, our partner ecosystem to help them build out this impact and this innovation.”

The Microsoft Marketplace will feature an extensive catalog of over 3,000 free and paid AI apps and agents at launch. These offerings include products designed to extend Microsoft 365 Copilot and solutions built on the Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft’s platform for AI app development and management. Businesses will be able to browse these solutions, make purchases through their existing Microsoft accounts, and integrate them directly into widely used Microsoft products such as Office and Teams.

Unlike traditional app stores, Microsoft will not take a commission on sales within the marketplace. Instead, its revenue model relies on charging a publishing fee to developers and earning from the underlying cloud services that power these applications. A rigorous security review process will be in place for every app to ensure data control and trust for companies.

Complementing the new marketplace, Microsoft also introduced the Microsoft 365 Agent Store earlier this year. This in-product experience, accessible directly within Microsoft 365 Copilot, provides a centralized hub for discovering and engaging with agents specifically designed to work within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. Both the Microsoft Marketplace and the Agent Store share a unified catalog and infrastructure, ensuring consistency in listings, pricing, and management. This connected experience allows customers to research and transact on the marketplace and then deploy and manage agents through the Agent Store.

Partnerships are central to this strategy. Moveworks, a leading agentic AI platform for the enterprise, announced its availability in the unified Microsoft Marketplace as a launch partner. Moveworks’ integration will enable employees to automate tasks across IT, HR, and finance directly within the Microsoft ecosystem, enhancing productivity without disrupting their workflow. Cyril Belikoff noted, “We’re excited to have Moveworks as a launch partner for the AI apps and agents category in our newly unified Microsoft Marketplace, which surfaces apps, AI tools, and agents contextually within Microsoft products to meet you in the flow of work.”
