MGM China Issues Alert on AI-Generated Deepfake Impersonating Chairperson Pansy Ho for Fraudulent Investment Scheme

TLDR: MGM China Holdings has issued a strong warning to investors and the public regarding a sophisticated AI-generated deepfake video. The video falsely features Chairperson and Executive Director Pansy Ho promoting a fictitious investment plan with promises of exorbitant returns. The company has unequivocally disavowed any connection to the fraudulent content, condemning the impersonation and reserving all legal rights. This incident highlights the escalating threat of deepfake technology in financial scams, even as MGM China reports robust financial performance in Q2 2025.

MGM China Holdings has released an urgent warning concerning a fraudulent deepfake video circulating online that impersonates its Chairperson and Executive Director, Pansy Ho. The company confirmed that the video, which promotes a fictitious investment plan, was generated using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The deepfake content makes ‘unfounded promises of hundredfold returns,’ according to a media release from MGM China. The company has unequivocally stated, ‘MGM China declares that such content is entirely fraudulent and has no connection whatsoever with the Company or Ms. Ho.’

In its official statement, the gaming operator emphasized that neither the company nor Ms. Ho has ever been involved in, authorized, or endorsed the purported investment plan featured in the deepfake video. They further clarified that ‘The video was neither created nor released by the Company or Ms. Ho.’ MGM China has expressed its strong condemnation of ‘these acts of impersonation and misrepresentation in the strongest terms and reserves all legal rights against the parties involved, to protect our rights and interests.’

The company is urging the public and media to exercise extreme caution, advising them to ‘exercise the utmost vigilance and verify information through official channels.’ They caution against believing or disseminating such fraudulent content to prevent potential legal and financial repercussions. All legitimate business updates from MGM China are communicated exclusively through its official platforms, and the company has requested that all parties cease the dissemination of the fraudulent video and its associated claims.

This incident underscores a growing concern regarding the rising threat of deepfakes. The increasing realism of AI-generated content is being exploited by fraudsters to mislead the public and damage reputations. The use of Ms. Ho’s likeness in this scam aimed to lend credibility to a false investment offer, highlighting how deepfake scams can target prominent business leaders, exposing both corporations and individuals to significant reputational and financial risks. MGM China reaffirmed its commitment to lawful and transparent operations, stating it ‘consistently adheres to the principles of lawful and compliant operations.’

This warning comes amidst a period of strong financial performance for MGM China. The company reported robust results for the second quarter of 2025, with total net revenues reaching HKD8.7 billion (€1.01 billion or US$1.11 billion). This represents a 9 percent year-on-year rise and surpasses pre-pandemic Q2 2019 levels. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter stood at HKD2.5 billion (€290 million or US$319 million), marking a 6.1 percent increase from the previous quarter and a 4.2 percent year-on-year rise. Notably, adjusted EBITDA exceeded 2019 pre-Covid levels by 172 percent.
